They are undeniable vfm but whilst being a fan itselfally do think that the frames are where some money is saved. Finishing quality and attention to detail are lacking.
the pro ht I got last week had a thread stripped from the front direct mount and the mount itself was welded on the frame wonky resulting in a mech that was impossible to get parallel. I'm just glad my local halfords keep taking them back with no fuss!

Was that in exchange for the previous Team FS? I thought you'd given up on them?

Had 2 fs teams and after that I gave up. But then decided to give the pro ht a try. Its an awesome bike to be fair, very quick and agile. Been unlucky again but touch wood the one in the shed at the moment is fine. For now...

First ht I had was a display one and had been butchered by the store. Second one had the front mech issues. Third one seems ok!

Fingers crossed, lol. Happy with mine so far, but it's only done a few miles.

Yeah I was more than happy with the way mine rode, really neutral and intuitive.

If I go full suss again I'll probably get another trek fuel ex. Had an ex7 couple of years ago and loved it. Mind you I hear the new giant trance bikes are the ones to have now...

Aye, I'm no expert, but it does ride well, especially given the price. Shame yours were so problematic, hopefully I'll have more luck.

I rode the EX8 and EX9 and liked them a lot. Maybe not the newest, fanciest bike out there, but a well developed, refined, tried and tested design (there's often a lot to be said for evolution over revolution). Feels like a really well built premium product too. I was very close to buying an EX7 in that tasty white and black colourscheme. I'd be a bit miffed if I'd paid full price for one though, now that Evans have them at £1600.

I do like the look of that new Trance though. Maybe there'll be some nicely discounted ones this time next year...

All comes down to money though doesn't it.

I've got child no.2 on the way in the new year so the chance of any new toys is slim to none lol.

Aint that always the way, unfortunately. :( No kids here though, lol.

Went for a bit of an evening ride today (14 miles, just local stuff, woodland trails and down the canal). Stayed out later than intended and the canal towpath was seriously dark on the way back, with just a single LED marker light to see by - I couldn't see a bloody thing, lol. Not recommended.

Scuffed my pedals a couple of times too, grrrrr.

The Youtube vid that I watched on how to wheelie said I should choose a flat grassy area to practice on. I used a local cricket pitch - seemed ideal, lol. :D

Did 25 miles on it this afternoon and during the ride the bottom bracket started creaking noisily under load, so it looks like another case of the famous Boardman no grease at the factory syndrome, which is a pain in the butt. There's also a slight clicking noise from the front shock absorber mount. Total mileage from new is about 100 miles.

Mine developed a clicking noise from the front with less than a 100miles on it. I returned it and two days they rang and said it was all fixed - it wasn't. I kicked off in the shop about them lying and they reordered a new bike to get the forks off it. Turns out the headtube was bone dry and it just needed a smear of grease. Fixed it and been fine since. (That was a y.ear ago now)

I've already got a warranty frame on order (since there are no new full bikes left), so I'm not bothering to whip the shock out and lube the front mount. I'd hoped not to experience the famous Boardman creaking bottom bracket before the warranty frame arrived, since I'd need to remove the crank and BB then anyway, so could've taken the opportunity to make sure it was properly greased then.

I've ordered a BB tool from CRC today, but my order's not showing as despatched yet, so I won't have it tomorrow like I'd hoped. If I don't get it in time to investigate by the weekend then I'll use the bike as it is. If the BB fails then I'll insist on a warranty replacement - they should've greased it properly at the factory.

orrr go to your LBS and ask them nicely if you can borrow / hire a bb tool from them..(they will probably let you borrow) and whack some grease in yourself... instead of wilfully using something that will become damaged through your use and you know is easily fixable.

preventative maintenance is always a better way to go... (yes i agree the QC should have picked up on the lack of grease.... but hey ho... what can you do? )

    just my opinion....

BB tool arrived in this morning's post, but I've not done owt with it since I've been asleep all afternoon after being up most of the night, lol, plus the weather's been nasty today.

Strangely enough, during a quick play in the cul de sac after getting the bike out for a thorough clean yesterday afternoon the BB wasn't creaking. I'll have another look tomorrow, if it's not creaking again then maybe I'll leave it until my warranty frame arrives (due at start of September), or maybe whip it out and grease it anyway. I did notice while the bike was upside down during cleaning that the drain hole in the BB shell is blocked with grease, even if there's not enough in the BB bearings
  • Guess I am lucky , no bb issues on ht pro carbon , though cranks are truvativ . Dead easy to whip off and check with just a 10mm allen key. Put bearing grease in just to be on safe side.

Unless I'm missing something the FSA crank & BB combo looks dead easy to remove and refit too. I'll probably whip it out tomorrow and make sure it's greased up sufficiently (and unblock the drain hole in the frame).

Removed the crank and BB today. It had sod all grease in (apart from the stuff blocking the drain hole). Cleaned it, liberally greased with waterproof grease and reassembled. It now spins freely and silently. Very simple job, once you've got the BB socket tool.
  • Now just got to sort the rest of the bikes problems

It doesn't have any other problems (and you're missing an apostrophe, lol).
  • Arent you waiting for a new frame?

Sorry I cant take spelling/grammar lessons from someone who says lol.
  • Aren't you missing another apostrophe ?

    Me again :)

Just wanted to say that when I first noticed my team fs making a noise I assumed it was the bottom bracket too. I did exactly what you did, took it off and found it wasn't greased properly. Greased it up etc.

Thought that was the issue solved but as I've said before it turned out to be the rear pivots. Really hope yours isn't but it sounds possible.

Yes, but due to cosmetic damage, not any fault (and it doesn't affect how the bike rides, so certainly not a problem).

Sorry, but I can't take seriously anyone who can't even use apostrophes. Or commas. Lol.

Cheers, but it was definitely the BB (I'd eliminated the suspension pivots by prodding the pedals while off the bike, making sure there was no force going through the rear suspension), all sorted and silent for now, and spotlessly clean and lubed, waiting for getting dirty again. If nothing else, it was worth spending the little time it took for the peace of mind of knowing it's properly greased (and unblocking the drain hole - there was water trapped in the BB shell). They really should buy a pot of grease at the factory though. Looking forward to my Great Rock skills course a week on Saturday, and hoping for good weather.
