The Planet X is a real mixture of components. Any reason why you've gone for Red shifters, Force rear mech, Rival front mech? Rival throughout would be good enough and you could use the extra money towards a set of really decent wheels or a cheaper bike.

Do you care about weight? What do they weigh?

To be fair i picked the red shifters because they look better and are apparently lighter , Bad idea? I do care about weight but im not going to complain about a few grams
  • I have the RT-57 and faced the same dilemma you're facing now. I got the Force kit throughout, the rest is stock and I can't fault it. The only thing I have changed are the wheels, from the AL30s to Cosmic Elite's and that was only because I wanted to, not needed to.

I came from an alu Synapse and the difference is stark. The RT-57 is lighter, stiffer, faster and corners much better. The finishing is superb, the colours are the business and the ride is a pleasure. The stock seat is even comfortable on short to medium rides. The only thing to watch is cable rattle in the frame from the rear brake, but once you get it settled it's no problem.

I can honestly say this is the first bike since my 2006 Specialised Enduro Comp that I actually love riding, not just enjoy.

It's going to be down to your choice ultimately. I have the R872, and I'm delighted with it. I have full 105 on it, cosmic wheels (non carbon). But I love riding it. It is now my summer bike, with my Tarmac relegated to my winter/wet weather bike.

    See my sig for photos.

Cheers - I love it. I have done 1350 miles on it (I only take it out in good weather) had it since March, and I love it. Fit is just right, done three 100 milers on it and felt good afterwards - size it just right.

50cm C to top (i'm 5'11'') - because of sloping top tube it sounds small but is equivalent to my Spesh which is 56cm.

    Full spec is...
    - Shimano 105 black 10 speed double groupset (12-27 cassette, 34/50 compact chainset with 172.5 long cranks)
    - Mavic cosmic elite clincher wheels
    - 42cm ITM Alutech (31.8 handlebars)
    - 100mm ITM Alutech (31.8 stem)
    - Selle Italia X1 Man Saddle
    - CSN Carbone S E seatpillar
    - I now run Conti GP4000s 25mm wide tyres (different to picture)
    - ITM Cork Embossed Handlebar Tape
