Better gear than Aldi

All my cycling tops come from Aldi. They work but seem to suffer from stitching failures after a few months.
There is a large price gap between Aldi and other tops.
The question is - ignoring fashion and logos where is a good place to pay more and get better quality.

  • dhb wiggle's own brand is a good bet for good quality at good prices.

Tenn outdoors stuff is probably in between Aldi basement and dhb for both price and quality but don't buy a breathable jacket (breathable my a$$!).

i'll second dhb! good quality and a good price too.

otherwise trawl the sales and stock up when you find something in your size.

    From my own experience.
Aldi stuff is cheapest not the best fitting or looking but lasts ok rate it an average.
My favourite, best value is the Chinese knock offs on eBay. They fit well if you get the sizing right, look great and just seem to keep on going.
Altura is good and reasonably priced. Printing falls off after a while.
Dhb is good and reasonably priced, fit can be a bit odd for me.
All the other stuff is over priced and you don't get value for money. Just seem to pay for a name.
  • I've got a couple of ASSOS tops that are 6-7 years old, in perfect condition.

Aldi stuff seems pretty indestructible to me!

Santini tops are nice IMO - eg the nice retro ones from Prendas - http://www.prendas.co.uk/list.asp?typ=typ&ID=2 - there are often bargains listed. But it's not as though you need many. You can only wear one at once so it might be worth getting a couple of nice ones and leaving it at that. I use the Aldi tops day in day out on the commute and they are perfect for that. I have a few unworn ones and it will probably be sometime next decade before I have worn them all out!

I've got a few Dare 2B tops, all seem good quality.
You have to hunt around on their website to find all the offers.

Anywhere to buy plain tops. At my age I would feel stupid with a team logo'ed top but never seem to see any plain riding ones.

I have changed my body shape 10 times at least in the last 6 - 7 years so tops won last two years for me. I do have a couple of Assos bibs and they are definitely worth the money.
