New Bike Day!

So after a couple of weeks of deliberation, I finally ended up buying a new bike yesterday!

I was torn between lots of bikes but on my lunch break I went on the Edinburgh Cycles site to see they'd started a 15% sale on all bikes. Considering I was going to go up at the weekend anyway and buy something at full price, this was pretty fortunate!

So in the end I ended up getting a Defy 1 for £850...including 0% finance. There were sexier bikes and lighter bikes and rarer bikes, but this just made perfect sense, particularly at that price. I'm going to use the money I saved to put towards a cycle computer.

I went and had a sit on one today, M/L size, felt perfect. The bike itself is on order from the warehouse and I'll be picking it up in 10 days - I asked for it to be delayed because I'm away on holiday next week.

So, yeah, very happy! And check out the sale if you're looking for something new - 15% off all bikes, including sale prices, across the board. Bargain central!

You did well there, good choice at a good price. If you're on the lookout for a bike computer I'd recommend one with heart rate and cadence if you can stretch to it. Once you start improving your ride fitness (which you will do quickly) you'll want to see the evidence, which can be illustrated by the speed your heart recovers after intense efforts. Also, keeping to a 90-100 rpm cadence is also a good pace. Having this info in front of you on the bars or stem works wonders...happy cycling :)

Thanks pal. Yeah, I can't wait till its delivered!

What would you recommend with cycle computer? I've seen the Garmin for £200 but that's quite a lot. I'm not too fussed about HRM at the moment - I'm thinking just cadence will be most useful for monitoring my progress, at least for now. And then I can always use my phone for the whole Strava/GPS thing (but I'm not too sure that's something I care about at the moment).

What do you think? Any recommendations? I would probably want to spend under £50.
