Ok, I currently have a Giant Defy 2. Looking at a new steed what is your opinion on the above subject bikes. £1200 buys the Canyon with 105, I can build a Ribble R872 carbon frame for approx the same cash (lesser finishing kit and wheels?). Obviously I cannot try either bike and would have to go with the web site recommendation on sizing. If I opted for the looks (my opinion) of the Canyon would I forever be dreaming of a carbon frame?...
Any thoughts however sarcastic would be appreciated!
Oh my cycling is nothing more than a two or three time per week 20 mile evening jaunt with a longer ride at the weekend looking at my first 100 in the next month.
Cheers, :D

Just rode my new Canyon Roadlite AL 7.0 today for the first time ever. I love it. I also own a Ribble Bianco sportive. Both great bikes but I prefer the canyon. To be honest I would have a look at the geometry and work out which one will fit you better. It's not an ultimate, but on the Roadlite, I'm definitely not as stretched out as on the Ribble. If you still can't decide then go for the one you like the look of more- I don't think you'd be disappointed with either.

Actually the Canyon is my first non-carbon bike and I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised.

I have the Ultimate AL 7.0 and I love it. I can't help you much with comparisons as its the only road bike I've ridden in recent years and have never ridden a carbon bike.

As the Defy is a great frame (from what I've read) I wonder if the Canyon would be much of a step up for you? If you're getting it for the different geometry (racier) then again from what I've read rather than from experience, the Ultimate AL frame is up their with equivalently priced carbon in terms of quality.

I agree. This months Cycling plus magazine did a test of different bikes with Di2. They were all carbon with the exception of the Canyon Ultimate AL 9.0. "There was only one clear winner right from the start...."

Working out which spec/colour/size Ultimate AL is available now, available but with a wait, or not available at all isn't an easy task.

    The Trek?
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles

I'm sure there's some logic to Canyon's availability - this is for the Ultimate AL size M in Black/White, White/Black and Black/Titanium:
