Getting Older - Feeling Colder

Years ago (when I was a lad) anytime after Easter I would be in short sleeve jersey and shorts unless it was raining. Now in my forties I am riding more in long sleeve jerseys or short sleeves with arm warmers and 3/4 length shorts. Only in the very hot weather or when I am abroad does the real summer clothes come out.
I feel the cold a lot more nowadays but also think it may be down to experience and thinner now than ever(or that's the excuse I tell myself) and dress accordingly and more so if I am doing a whole day ride.
Anybody else feeling the cold as they get longer in the tooth?
PS Don't start me on the nose drip in cold weather

Perhaps the climate is changing, its getting colder. Regardless of temperature, my nose always snots up when cycling. I regularly have to get shot of the stuff along with my manners on the fly.0

Only 32 and my feet get cold. Have to wear toe covers even on hot days.Trek 1.5 Road

I was wearing arm warmers & gilet last night, its the chilliest year I've known. Tonight, sweating buckets in lightweight jersey. Mad weather.I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0

Yes only been out in shorts and short sleeves twice this year so far..weather looks OK but wind chill factor and I'm way too cold. Definitely putting it down to age...ARTHUR

Past couple of years the weather's been rubbish.
Still go out wearing arm and knee warmers along with a gilet in the vain hope that they'll eventually come off..............0 -
Brian - Your not alone mate, I was thinking the same myself. Ive never worn as many "layers" at this time of the year. was over the campsies on sunday along with knee warmers, long sleeve base layer, jersey, gilet and glove liners..and am thinking if EFFIN june FFs . lost weight like you too but more and more i have sarted to feel colder when i think i have plenty of "clathes Oan" 8)0

I'm glad to hear it's not just me! I'm 47, and must admit I have actually been putting weight ON (well, I did weigh 59kg in my racing days, so I guess it's ok to be getting a touch of middle age spread now  ) Nevertheless, I find it an increasingly rare day when my arms are actually naked, and I always seem to be not only wearing a gilet, but zipping the blinking thing right up. I have worn shorts this year only three or four times, and I even want to reach for my chemical toe warmers at 10 degrees C. It's ridiculous.
Without a doubt, the weather this year is pants, but I can't help thinking that I am no longer able to MTFU. Instead I find myself amazed at how many people seem to go out in shorts, short sleeves etc on days which are really, really cold! Maybe it is an experience thing as well - as we get older, we just know AND ACCEPT that we ought to wrap up.Trek Project One Series 6 Madone 2010

I blame the weather myself. I'm still very much self-heating and it takes quite a lot to get me cold, especially when exercising, and the air just hasn't warmed up this year at all. Last year was bad, but it's still genuinely nippy out there when not in the sun.
Yesterday's ride - an early evening run in the summer in the South - was conducted at an average temperature of 11C according to Mr. Garmin... so like an average day in March as far as shade temps are concerned, which wouldn't be so bad if there was actually some direct sun to warm things up, but there isn't.

Seen that this year on loads or rides, guys in short sleeves and shorts and its reading 6 or 7 degrees. keep saying i should be used to it in scotland...but i hate the rain & cold. Does anyone else get aggro from their folks partners about us cyclists moaning about the weather ? They just dont get it that the weather determines how we do or dont cycle that day. I was on the Turbo up until the end of april never been as late as that before. stuff this MTFU 8)0 -
I've noticed this year, I'm feeling the cold more and more, never use to bother me at all when I was younger. I just put it down to getting older, although I am only 33. Would be nice to think maybe I'm fitter now so less body fat, so in fact i'll use that excuse now instead of getting older2010 GT Series 4 ultegra wheels & brakes

What amazes me is the amount of folk out in shorts and short sleeve tops on a really chilly morning. I've gone barelegged once this year. Always seem to be in three quarters and arm warmers and gilet.0

I'm nesh but I can't believe the number of folk I see out still wearing tights and long sleeves, plus there's plenty riding around in boil in the jackets. They must be mad, if it is cold first thing just wear some arm warmers and put a gilet on or you'll fry yourself.0

Know what you mean. 59 here and always have to wear long sleeves. I also never go 'bare legged' but that is as much to do with hiding my outrageously skinny legs as it is with feeling the cold :oops:0

You're dead right Giant Man and in fact I partly blame Assos for making excellent garments that actually perform as advertised so that I can comfortably wear 3/4 bibs and long sleeves for most of the yearBrian B.0
