Bike discount are now selling the Ultegra 6800 rear derailleur at a price cheaper than i can find a 6700, does anyone know if this is 10 speed compatible?
Thanks.

  • 6800 is 11 speed so i would steer clear of it.

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to use it for 10 speed, in the same way you can use an 11spd. 7800 rear mech with 10spd. 6700 shifters, or a 10spd. 105 rear mech with 9spd. 4500 shifters. The extra range of movement comes from the shifter, not the mech. The rear mech is pretty much just a parallelogram linked by a spring, which does whatever the shifter tells it to do.

*edit* The new 6800 rear mech looks really trick. Assuming the finish is the same dark glossy grey as existing 6700 stuff, I need one.

+1 it should be fine, just as long as your shifters and cassette match, RD is less of an issue

That of course assumes that the pull ratio is the same between 6700 and 6800 (i.e. one click on the shifter results in the RD moving across more/less than the old one). I assume it is the same but there's a possibility it's changed I suppose.
