Would it be a meaningful upgrade to go from speedsters s50 with sora to caad10 105? they are both aluminum and as far as I know scott frames are not bad. I had bought speedster to see If I was into road cycling last year and I loved it (both the bike and the sport). Naturally now I want a better bike even though I cant specificly say why. :) Caad 10's are the best among the aluminum frames as I learned from this forum but I dont know how much better. Is it a miniscule difference or not? I am a recreational rider mostly riding on weekends. My average is around 100 km per week.
Thanks

You said it yourself, the caad10 is possibly the best alu frame out there, whether or not you see a difference is personal perception. It has a very stretched out racing position, your Scott may be more comfort oriented.

Sora to 105 will feel like a nice step up but ultimately they both allow selection of gears but nothing else.

Psychologically you will probably feel great, if you can afford it then why not have some fun?

Mind you, you could have something sweet and carbon for the same price as the caad10, all personal preference.

After my bike got nicked I've been looking for a new bike the last week or so.

I've tried the Caad 8, 10 and supersix. Whilst they were all nice I didn't really notice much difference on a 4/5 mile test run. The ride was no real detectable difference from my triban 3, not even with the carbon supersix. They shifters were nicer, being used to a 2300 mechanism the 105/ultegra seemed smoother. Although I couldn't feel much difference between the 105 and ultegra. I'm used to looking at the display which shows which gear you're in on the 2300 but the 105 and above dont have it. Not that it makes a difference once you are used to it.

Also tried bianchi impulso, felt z85 (too upright for me), boardman team, scott speedster 20 and a focus cayo evo. The above is true for all of these too!

Probably not what you want to hear, but if you have the money then why not.

I have a SuperSix for weekend riding, paid nearly £2k for it! But from what you're saying, I could have saved myself a whole heap of cash and bought a Triban 3 for no detectable difference. Hmmmm!

Test rides are pointless imo. They're only really good for testing fit, comfort and riding position. Trust me, if you were to do a 50 mile ride across varying terrain on your Triban 3, you would notice a difference doing the same ride on a SuperSix, or indeed a CAAD 10, the latter being that good!

I'm happy and hoping to be proved wrong! Like you said, a quick spin wont show much more than riding position/size guidance.

I'll prob be getting a focus if I can get a frame in my size.
