Planet-X or Ribble

Hi guys. Have decided to buy myself a new road bike and I am torn between the two and wanted some advice.
Am interested in the Planet-x Carbon Shimano Ultegra Road bike - Matt Black http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/CBPXSLPULT/planet_x_pro_carbon_shimano_ultegra_road_bike
and the Ribble R872 Shimano Ultegra Road bike - Matt Blackhttp://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sed/road-track-bike/ribble-r872-shimano-equipped?part=SE13RIBR872SHIM&sub=conf_SERC
Few points have noticed not much different in cost around £1500. Am going to visit the Planet-x store and test ride the planet-x bike but have heard that Ribble do not allow any test rides which I think is not good.
Anyway look forward to your advice.

If I was going to spend my hard earned cash on a bike and wasn't allowed a test ride I'd shop elsewhere.0

^^^ I agree but to be fair Ribble are an online shop and if you head to their warehouse you can try any built up frame they have around, give them a call and ask.Dolan Mythos and Her dirty sister

Well think my choice has been decided. Ribble don't allow test rides and Planet X do so gonna head to Sheffield tomorrow and test one out will keep you posted.
Reckon ribble must lose a lot of business not offering this service. Like previous posts say am not gonna pay £1500 + pounds on a bike having only looked at it online :-(0 -
Shame as Ribbles are really great value.'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0

Dont offer test rides? But really what are you gonna benefit riding round a car park?
I went to Ribble's showroom and was very impressed with the bikes to view and the staff even went out of their way to find one that was my size so i could sit on it to see how it felt.
I've had my bike now for over 8 months and the New Sportive is an absolute joy to ride.
They are open on Saturdays too0 -
I can recommend Planet-X service, and you can test ride. but then again as another poster suggests a ride up and down a carpark is no substitute for a proper ride anyway.
My wife has a Planet-X (Sab Classico bike, actually) which is fantastic. And we got the spec she wanted (crank length, gearing, bar/stem etc) but we still had to change the saddle, brake calipers to alternative items she wanted. So please make sure the spec is what you want when you buy from Planet-X
Where Ribble score for me, is that there is a wider kit choice and the end bike is more configurable to your requirements, possibly saving you money. Having said that, never ridden a Ribble but i doubt you would go far wrong with one.0 -
I'd go planet x. Great company.
I don't mind the ribble alu bikes but I know few guys with carbon ones and they seem to have very heavy finishing kit.
Planet x do some great builds. The mondo's a fantastic bike and the N2A is great bike to ride.
I had an SL Pro years ago and it was good for its time.
Ive bought lots from them over the years and service has always been great.0 -

Finishing kit? Pick something else then, they have enough to choose from in the spec options.
R872 appears to be a better frame than the PX offerings....maybe. I guess its all down to opinion but the R872 gets great reviews AFAIK.Cheers, Stu0 -
I can only speak regarding planet x. I ordered some bars last week. When they arrived they had sent the wrong ones.
Well I went in to the Sheffield store today. They explained the mistake and replaced with a new pro vibe bar which is worth 4 times what I paid for the others.
Excellent service imo.0 -
Planet X's customer service is great but when comparing the bikes themselves the R872 comes out on top in terms of stiffness. Pro is an older bike with many reviews mentioning Flexing on the front end as it's weakness, where as I've yet to hear anyone complain about flexing on the Ribble due to Tapered steerer and BB30 (as much as we all love the bb30).0

I can go to Canyon and ride one if I am prepared to travel to the shop. Oh wait , I just did.
Ribble ,I am sure, make money because they let you build the spec to you. As far as being better value, I think that is a myth. If you take any of their range and change the setup to something other than the basic one on the bike build they work out as being near enough the same as any other bike of a similar spec. Sometimes they are more expensive than a stock bike from other online retailers where massive reductions can be found.0 -
I think ribble are great value for money. If you do a bit of research you will find that some of their frames are "similar" for premium brands viewtopic.php?t=12879230&p=17877079
I have also found the ribble customer service to be great.
I tell them my measurments and they ensure that all of the components are sized just right.0 -
Canyon, but no test ride unless you travel!0
-
Canyon allow you to return the bike if you are not completly satisfied and that includes a test ride of the bike when its delivered - speak to the reps!
FWIW out of the PX and Ribble it would be the Ribble all day long. Thing is there are better bikes out there for the money IMO such as this.
