Hi everyone,

I currently have a 2013 cannondale synapse sora triple, and with my cycle scheme starting shortly, I was thinking of changing the chain set for a double/ compact, with me having a 9 speed cassette does this limit my choices, or could I change this to 10 speed while I'm at it ?
Any recommendations on chain set / Cassette appreciated .

Thanks tony. :D

I am fairly sure that any 10-speed chainset should be 9-speed compatible, just don't go to 11 speed campags (and not too sure about the newest Dura Ace)
However you won't be able to go to a 10 speed cassette without changing the shifters and rear mech as these will both 9-speed units so won't have the capability to deal with the 10th cog.
If you are going from a triple to a double you will also have to adjust the front mech accordingly

Not strictly correct, rear mech will cope with going from9 to 10 speed, it's the shifters and cassette / chainrings that need to match.

That said you can't have had the bike long, I'd stick with the triple until its worn out and only then consider changing.

What is it you do not like about the triple out of interest?

Chainsets are fine (regardless of their so called speed). A 10 speed chainset will work fine on your 9 speed set up.

You real issue with going from tripple to double (or compact) is likely to be the front mech and chain. i.e Position of mech (maybe even the actual mech) and length of chain will probably require alteration.

Not worth it going from a triple to a compact, in fact it might even annoy you the big jumps between the rings. If you are riding strong or planning going racing then maybe a standard double would make sense but I have seen plenty of new racers start out on a triple.
