I am going to be riding in Thailand for 6 weeks from Mid-July on some not so great roads.
Does anyone have any experience of these and is it worth taking several with me ?
Thanks everyone - Mick.

Just invest in decent, puncture proof tyres IMEMake mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

I am riding Continental Grand Prix 4000S - would they be considered in that bracket ?0

Yeah I would forget liners. The GP4000s are a lightweight racing tyre, whilst they have a puncture breaker belt, they are not a 'tough' tyre. Racing tyres are made of soft compound to increase grip, but soft rubber it probably not what you want in the middle of nowhere.
To get better resistance to punctures you've got two options (I'll stick to continental if you like them).
1. A tough road tyre - If you are sticking to proper road surfaces the Gatorskin range should provide more protection than your current tyres. They come in two versions, standard and the tougher hardshell version: http://www.conti-tyres.co.uk/conticycle ... hell.shtml
2. A touring tyre - If you are going to be riding on tracks, trails, seriously bad roads then a touring tyre would provide better protection and traction. If you are riding a road bike it is unlikely that you'll be able to fit any larger than a 25mm tyre (maybe a 28mm on some frames). Something like the Supersport is an option: http://www.conti-tyres.co.uk/conticycle ... plus.shtml
If you are currently riding 23mm tyres seriously consider moving to 25mm, for extra comfort and protection. I ride 28mm for tours, but as I said these may not fit your bike.
Also, make sure you have a mini-pump which is capable of 100psi+. Many punctures are caused by under inflation, so you need to have a decent pump with you.0 -
Michael - thanks for your very informative response. I do ride 25mm and I believe it is my max so I will have a look at the Gatorskins.
Thanks - Mick.0
