Weeman, looks like there'd be plenty of clearance for 25mm tyres!

What I wanted to hear - Thanks Colm, enjoy the bike!

You too, looking forward to seeing it built up....maybe someone should start a 2012 Scott CR1 SL Appreciation Thread....

Think we're half way there already aren't we :D

I am having my LBS build mine whilst I am on holiday so should have something nice & shiny to return to! Will be using my Sram Force / Red Groupset from my Pinarello. Will put the images on this 'unofficial' appreciation thread when she's up & running!

Still waiting for my frame but wanting to get a few bits and pieces ordered ready for the build. Looking at the bottom bracket shell "protruding" from the bottom of the frame it looks susceptible to damage if the chain were to unship inwards. Therefore looking to install a Deda dog fang chain catcher but not sure which size I should order. Can any new owners help? thanks

If it's a CR1 you're waiting for then it already comes with a chain catcher.

Nice one (although if Scott supply the frame with a chain catcher it kind of confirms that the protruding BB shell is vulnerable to damage from an unshipped chain don't it?!). Best keep an eye on that. Yup, expecting my CR1 SL frame tomorrow all being well... :)

Frame arrived! Unpacked (carefully) and discovered a "dink" on the upper section of the down tube - a line about 3/4" long which is a depression when you run your thumb along it. Have emailed Westbrook with a pic and asking what I should do (at full price I would refuse it, but at the sale price I'm wondering whether I still should). I guess it's possible the frame has been compromised in some way, but even if not I'd see it every time I looked down!

I'm not local to Westbrook so have asked if I could get it checked out by a local Scott dealer - what would you do?

Oh, and had also bought a seatpost shim so I could use my existing 27.2mm post, but one of the frame tags says shims are not suitable, and that only 31.6mm seatposts should be used. Happy days....

Did come with the Dog Fang though

I would not be accepting a visible defect even at the sale price - return it.

I can see the carbon sheet in my top tube, acceptable?

I've got that at a couple of places too, as well as the 3/4" "crease". It's very slight and difficult to capture in a photograph but its there nonetheless. I wouldn't be concerned about the carbon sheet being visible. I think I remember seeing some Focus Cayo's on here where the patterns created by the carbon sheet weren't particularly attractive (a lot worse than the CR1), but were structurally sound. I think one of the features of the SL frame is the close to naked carbon finish, which allows a lighter frame construction as the high gloss lacquer finish isn't there.

Here is a photo of the indentation in the frame. Would you keep or return (or keep and ask for a partial refund)?

As Westbrook have now sold out of the SL frame they've offered me a Pro frame with some extra money off (they'll collect the SL frame FOC). However, the Pro is a lower grade carbon. Interested in thoughts.....

Definitely looks like your frame has taken a whack. If it's purely cosmetic and not structural damage,it's still a good buy.

I have an SL and I love it dearly.

    I wouldn't bother. Looks nothing.

Problem is you can't tell whether its structural or not so is it worth the risk? Tempted to take it to a local Scott dealer for their opinion. Otherwise I reckon it goes back to Westbrook to be replaced by the Pro. Liked the colour scheme of the SL though. Bit of a faff finding a local courier depot I can get it to as work commitments mean I cant get it collected from home. Oh, the joy of the online sale when things don't exactly go to plan!

Well, back from hols and the CR1 is all built up and ready to go and here she is:

Only had a quick 18 mile blast but it feels great - very light & fast. I went for the 52cm / S as this was all they had so will need to get used to the longer top tube than on my Pinarello (hence all the spacers in currently) but it don't feel too big.

The SDS system certainly seems to work well as I noticed a difference between the ride on my Pinarello and this being smoother too. All in all very pleased so far, just need a few more miles under the belt to make sure I am 100% happy before I sell the Pinarello.................

Better pics please without the garden furniture behind it, there's one on the CR! thread in commuting with Homebase behind it as well, seems to be all the rage !
Ultegra chainset and Sram Red shifters, I'd ask for a build list but I think it's going to be a long one !
Sorry just jealous, getting mine Thursday hopefully although won't be able to ride it due to injury :(

The garden furniture, is attached to the bike I'm afraid which does make it a tad heavy but it's great when you want a rest and a picnic

I prefer Sram shifting however have had nasty experiences with Sram FD & Chainsets so stuck with Shimano up front (Ultegra FD & Chainset, couldn't afford Dura Ace!). Shifters are Red and RD is new style Force (which is old style Red I believe). Everything works perfectly well together.

Rest of the finishing kit is Pro LT Stem, Bontrager (copy  ) Seatpost, FSA Brakes, Pro Carbon Bars (40cm as I'm only little!), H Plus Son Archetype Wheelset (12-25 Dura Ace Cassette) with Vittoria Evo CX Open Corsa Tyres, Selle Italia Pro Link Gel Flow Saddle, Speedpaly Pedals, Jagwire Cables and Specialized Roubaix Bar Tape.

Need to get a few more miles under my belt to feel 100% happy, but it is more comfortable than the Pinarello, lighter too and looks the business in stealth Black!
