Hi
I've read tonnes of threads on 'which bike should I buy' so I feel slightly guilty starting another. However I'm adding an extra dimension - I'm looking for a recommendation for a sub £600 road bike, but with a carbon fork. The best option that I can find is the B'Twin Triban 5 or 7, but the former isn't currently available in my size and the latter is the top-end of my budget.
I've done a lot of reading into the best buys for sub-this-and-that and it looks like there are some great bikes out there for very little cash. Most don't have a carbon fork though and I'm guessing that I need one of these to make life more bearable riding the lanes of the Lake District where I live. Any thoughts on whether this is true/not so true would be appreciated too.
My short list (non-carbon) at the mo looks something like the following. Mostly 2012 models.
Cannondale CAAD8
Scott Speedster S55
Specialized Allez Sport Compact
Giant Defy 5
Any help would be great!
Many thanks folks,
Si

Some Triban 3s just come back into stock on Decathlon, and they've got carbon fork for £300 ;-)WyndyMilla Massive Attack | Rourke 953 | Condor Italia 531 Pro | Boardman CX Pro | DT Swiss RR440 Tubeless Wheels

Check AshCyles.com, still offering the 2012 Defy range. Got my Defy 2 from there, can't fault them.0

The Merida Race Lite 900 is a great frame and fork for under £600, perfect for future upgrades.0

Seems to take wide tyres which is more important for comfort really plus a carbon fork & looks like a triple. Perfect for the lakes. The revolution cross bikes might interest you too.
If you want a more traditional road bike, then I'd be looking at Ribble. preston isn't far from the Lakes for a fitting & the prices are probably the best. I'd go for the winter trainer.'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0 -

Can second the Felt F95 recommendation. Have it in grey and as a first venture in road biking having been a MTB guy for years and I couldn't be any happier with it. New tyres, new saddle to start but plenty of room for upgrades over time as it seems to be cracking set up and frame for the money.0
