Afternoon Gents
I am currently looking at road bike in the £1,000 to £1,500 price range.
A couple that jump off the page are Trek Madone 2.3 (alloy frame) the 3.1 and the Ridley Orion.

Not sure if I worried about alloy or carbon frames, I would really like an 853, but not in my price range!
I would like Shimano 105 or better and ideally threaded BB, although press fit is ok, but not PF30.
I am a strong rider with a mid 80s cadence; think defensive end, rather than marathon runner!
Any thoughts, other suggetions?
Only spanner in the works is that I may have to buy from Evans.
Thanks in advance.

Not from Evans but worth a look if you're considering the Ridley Orion http://www.wiggle.co.uk/verenti-insight-105-2013/.0

Madone 2.3 is decent (I have the 2.1) however, for that price I would personally spend a little more and get the Madone 3.1 or the Domane 4.0. The difference being in the carbon frame, and having ridden 2 and 3 series Madones, it *does* make a difference.
I did buy a Madone 2.1 but if my bike was taken off me and I got all my money back now, I'd put it towards a Domane 4.0 (it doesn't have as good a groupset, but you can upgrade that later)0 -

Interesting, dare I ask why; more comfortable?0 -
If you can find a Wilier Izoard XP XXL on a deal (Cyclesurgery had them recently) then worth a try. I run a pre-XP Izoard and I'm 6'4". It's very, very comfortable.Trail fun - Transition Bandit
Road - Wilier Izoard Centaur/Cube Agree C62 Disc
Allround - Cotic Solaris0 -

Partly because it's a carbon frame instead of the Alu frame on my Madone 2 (having ridden a Trek 3.5 it felt much faster and more comfortable than my 2.1). Plus given the quality of the roads here and most of the UK I think the Domane setup is going to be more appropriate.0 -
Deposit has been placed on a 62 Madone 3.1!
Lets see how much faster a carbon roadie is than a 853 steel MTB!0 -

Very nice! Only thing I'd say with that bike is that it comes with unbranded brakes, you might want to think of upgrading them0
