Bit wierd this, but recently been having a crap time at work. Leaving me feeling really down.
BUt problem is it has effected me wanting to ride. I have been trying to get out but do like 10 miles and either the bike doesnt feel right or I dont and then just pedal on home. No motivation to get going.
So can anyone give me any tips or advice to get going again? I know there are people with bigger problems but its getting me down even more.

Do you ride to work?
Riding to work (or rather home from work) is the best part of my job...
Do you have time to go out riding in the morning before work gets you down? Or can you take your bike to work and take an extended lunch break to go riding (and make up the hours later).
Is there something your employer can do? A friend told her boss she was bored and hated her job and she was allowed 3 months off unpaid leave to go travelling and given a different role when she came back which she now likes a lot better. If she hadn't said anything, nothing would have changed.
Is there anyone you can go out riding with - so that you have to go out riding and just for some general larking around having fun?0 -
set yourself a target time for your 10 miles and try and better it - then change job - you know you want to - its doing you no good - you were not put on this planet to be slave - enjoy your bike - its a human right*.

Hi
Get some help, talk to some one before it becomes worse, remember why you enjoy riding and focus on that.
keep riding.0 -
Create an area either physical or mental that is in the gap between work and bike. In this area see all the sights you'll see on your ride, hear all the sounds of wheels, breathing, cars, etc, feel all the feelings of your ride. Keep expanding this gap. Enjoy the miles. Especially keep expanding this gap.
P.S yes I'm a therapist.0 -
Join a club and group ride.
If that's not an option try something else for a while. I lost my MOJO about riding to work , because it became exactly that. riding to work and I felt like everyday I was just approaching a black oppressive abyss, rather than getting 45 minutes me time before work.
This was especially bad in the winter when it became a chore as well. I swapped out the commute in for a swim every morning for 3 months, and just the change to a bright light environment in the mornings helped me no end.
When I returned to biking to work, I set myself challenges and used it more as a short intense training ride. Sub 30 minute 10 mile TT. lamp post sprints and the like.
I would strongly advise getting a riding buddy.
It sounds very much like the jobs a problem and your wrongly associating this with you bike ride as part of the process. Its hard in the current climate to contemplate a job change, is there not someone at work such as an occupational therapist you can discuss how you feel with in confidence?0 -
Blimey cheers for all the responses. Work is the problem I believe. No issues at home. I have a riding buddy but difficult to get 'time together' with the differing work hours.
Am going to be going to a counsellor/coach as I seem to have lost all self belief in my abilities at my role, despite being quite successful.
BUt as someone said contemplating change in this climate is difficult when it comes to work, as I have a good salary and dont really want to jeopardise my lifestyle, although I need to take a risk to be happy.
I dont ride to work as its quite a long way and dont want to be knackered before I get there.
Thanks again.0 -

Very simple and to the point but if work is getting you down give it a little time but if at all possible, "AND" you believe there is no fix, get out of there. Life is too short to be getting worked up each morning, forget about riding, thats just a side effect, you will find that the riding isnt the issue you are probably bordering depression which in almost all cases removes motivation in all aspects of life.
I hope you get it sorted though, keep your chin up !Living MY dream.0 -
Cheers vtech, I do believe I am bordering on depression. As sad as it sounds spoke to my mum about it all and completely broke down crying like a baby!
Hence trying to source counselling. The lack of motivation is the biggest hate I have, and its like a spiral. You get down so get no motivation then get angry with yourself for not riding0
