Hello everyone, I have just picked up my new Carrera Kraken bike. I am very new to the scene and am looking at doing some trails etc.

Only thing is that i'm really struggling to confirm the exact version of my Kraken, I bought this one of Ebay for £300, it is pretty much mint condition.

Is it the same spec as the white 2013 model currently for sale in Halfords? I hope i've not been duped as worried I've got a lower spec version. Any help and advise on this would be greatly appreciated!

Judging from bike list it seems to be a slightly different spec, is this model as good as the white Kraken?

2009-2011 I think. Mate has the exact same one which he got just before the model change and cost 360 in the sale.

Thanks. Is it still a good bike spec wise? Won't be doing any serious off road stuff, just general off road biking with the occasional trails?

Yeah, its got X5 sram stuff all round and will be fine , think they were 550 when not in sale, and that one looks clean really in thr pics. Tyres are lightweight though and he got punctures all the time with those on.

That's good then! The only difference I can see is the disc brakes are tektro and the new model are the Clark ones so probably a bit better and a different crank set.
I'm probably going to get some mountain kings mk 2s as pretty cheap and the reviews seem good for them

Not 2009/2011, I'm pretty sure the braced frame is 2011 onwards only.....
Tektro's are much better than Clarkes....

Have you added your bike to the Carrera HT thread (link in my sig)

next model after the 2011 was a white one. Mate got it before the white 2011/2012 model appeared.

Just can't seem to find a site to confirm the year, spec and exact parts which is strange for what appears to be a very popular model. As long as the spec is as good as the new version I'm not overly fussed. Just don't want to if had my pants pulled down lol

I think most of the next models were slightly lower spec to be honest, so worry not.

Its definitely 09/10 - its the same as my heavily upgraded kraken! It's a brilliant bike for a beginner to off road but you'll always find things you want to change! The only thing left as standard on mine is the frame, front mech, seatpost and rotors!

Yeah it always gets addictive wanting to upgrade things. Hopefully it holds out for a while before I get that bug!
