Hi all, so yesterday I was out on my bike for the 1st time in 2 months and today I'm feeling sore  .I was wearing some aldi padded cycling pants I purchased in their autumn cycling event and it appears that they just aren't up to the job. as its coming to summer I am looking for some padded cycling shorts ( nothing too expensive) but what would you recommend.

thanks in advance

For bang for buck you can't go wrong with DHB. Oh and get bib shorts- you won't look back!

personally i didn't get on with the pad in DHB but I know people who like them. I have 3 pairs of Endura FS260s - bib shorts and 3/4s and have found them to be very comfy and reasonably durable.
    ...and deffo get bibs

    +1 for DHB

Just bought the Aeron Pro Bibs for £55 and wondered why I didn't spend it sooner!

If it's the first time out in 2 months I doubt if any make of shorts will help. You need more time in the saddle.

just purchased the dhb ones as above....yet to use them in anger...but have tried them on my only criticism is that dhb stuff it seems is rather optimistic when it comes to sizing

    +1000

However if you are getting padded shorts +1 for DHB, plus returns are free with wiggle.

If you have a Decathlon near you then their top of the range padded shorts are equally good and often a little cheaper.
  • Lusso are better and cheaper than DHB

+1 for toughening your backside up.

    +1 for bib shorts.

everyone will recommmend what they wear but if they fit well and the pad appears to be decent then you should be OK.

Don't forget to buy a tub of Assos chamois creme - makes a world of difference!

Bib shorts are a must. Just got some Giordana Forma Red - very impressed, prefer them to my Assos. Have a couple of pairs of lower level Giordana and also very good. Liked my Decathlon shorts from a few years back too. +1 for chamois cream - have used Butt'r and Assos, both work. Sudacrem isn't really the same sort of thing, less of a lubicrant. Great for my baby's censored though!

Endura FS 260 are what I use, so far this month I've done nearly 1400 miles in them, no issues.

    Really?
Never used any of any kind so interested in why its better with rather than without

I felt the same until i actually got some free with a pair of Assos shorts. It acts as a lubricant in effect, and reduces any sort of rubbing you may get (regardless of whether you get chaffing or not). I've never had a proper saddle sore but its just altogether more comfortable with chamois cream than without.

Well i smear it on myself where needed. I dont think there's a right or wrong answer as to how much put i dont use a huge amount - a decent blob but expect a tub to last 40 or 50 rides at a guess
  • I think Giordana build quality is excellent. I've had top of the line Assos and Santini inserts all come undone at he seams, but the Giordana shorts still go strong.
