bike cube axial triple wls, ultegra through out.. shifters shimano st-r700 already adjusted for short reach.
spent most of the day trying to sort an issue out with the wifes cube, she really struggles changing up to her large front chain ring, she has less strength in her hands than i do but ill be honest i find it difficult to make the upwards change on her bike sometimes too. I have replaced the cables , inners and outers, and adjusted the darned front dérailleur to the point of giving up.. under no load it works fine, as soon as we pop some load on it via the trainer or road and move to the smaller of the rear sprockets its the devils own job to make the change to a larger front chain ring, has been in to a bike shop for a quick tinker, they of course did it under no load on a bike stand.. seemed good till we got out on the road..
I own a specialised tarmac comp with a sweet to change mix of 105 and ultegra , fair enough its a comp which i guess should make things a bit easier but am i expecting too much from a triple with a better gear set or is there something i could be missing... anyone with wives eperiencing similar issues or is it purley mechanical this end

try a small twist of the front mech so the cage is pointing slightly past parallel to the chainring towards the frame (1mm).
try adjusting for more cable tension and limit screw also - so you get maximum movement of the front mech from small to large chainring.
this worked for me on a firends bike on the weekend when it was struggling to change into the big ring when chain at the top of the cassette near the spokes0 -
PS yes, I'd always recommend a test ride for the gears after they work 'in the stand' as always seems lightly different in real life on the road0
