Which crankset/BB

Friend of mine has a Carrera TDF, for some reason they come with a standard double, he has a sportive coming up so want to drop to a compact, the bike has 2300 on it already, but I do no know much about this GS and BB, i think its square taper and runs a BSA68 shell? Can anyone recommend which tool would be right for removing the BB, and am i right in thinking a standard hollotech or GXP BB would fit? Can anyone recommend a compact crank also?

    Cheaper and less hassle to swap out the cassette to get some lower ratios if its only one event he's concerned about. May need a chain as well depending on mileage on current setup.
