Hi guys,

First post here, pretty new to cycling and maintaining my bike.
I bought a Boardman Comp Hybrid (http://www.boardmanbikes.com/hybrid/hybrid_comp.html) last summer, and now that it's spring, I am cycling more and more (Winter wasn't very successful! ).

My tyres are starting to fade a little, they're the stock Vittoria Zaffiro 700x28c and i'm looking to change them.
Being a newbie, I don't know anything about tyre size, what to get, what's compatible etc.

I've read a few reviews online and they all point to the Continental Grand Prix 4000S for speed and puncture resistance. Will they be compatible with my bike? Will I need to purchase anything else?

There's also two sizes, the 23 and the 25mm tyres - which should I go for? I ride London roads and streets.

Any help would be appreciated guys,
Thanks :)

You should be fine with anything 700c. If you have a hybrid you'd be wanting the 25mm version, as the 23mm are really racing, tyres - I have those exact ones on my bike. Except I'm no racer :)

PS Don't forget you'll probably need a new set of tubes to go with them, and make sure you get the correct valve type, presta or schrader.

    I would say 25s - see this comparison here: http://www.roadiemanila.com/2013/03/rev ... s-23c.html

But you may want to stick with 28s, in which case consider the GP 4 seasons - they have better puncture resistance (and thicker sidewalls I think) too. In fact, you may prefer these even in the 25mm size.

Why would he need new inner tubes???

Or if you like the Zaffiros, you can get another pair of them REALLY cheap (like £7.99!). http://www.wiggle.co.uk/vittoria-zaffiro-clincher-tyre/

Haha, the Zaffiros really aren't very good, I think i'm going to go for the 25s, Wiggle have a good bundle at the moment - http://www.wiggle.co.uk/continental-gra ... es-bundle/

+1 for the Conti 28 4 Seasons. These are what I have. Literally bomb proof and quite comfortable as well.

I also use the 23mm version on the road bike. Again bombproof with no visits from the fairy.

Only downside is that they are not the most grippiest of tyres so cares needs to be taken with extreme cornering.

A lot of people rate the Marathon + Tyres. TBH they are overkill. Plus the are really heavy and a b*stard to get on many rims.

I am just about to try the GP4000S in 25mm front and GP4Seasons in 28mm rear (where most of the weight is). Was tempted with the 4000s all round for the Black Chili compound and lower rolling resistance but they dont do it in a 28mm and I am not as sure of its puncture resistance compared to the 4 seasons. So I thought I would try a bit of both and see how they fayre.

I had the same bike (till it was nicked from work last Thursday  )

Had just replaced the rear Vittoria for a Schwalbe Durano Plus (people on other threads had recommended them) ... got mine in a 28 size ... if you don't mind the reflective stripe, they can be had for £23 from CRC, or around £26-£29 for just the plain black. unfortunately, I can't really tell you what it rode like, as I only managed a couple of short commutes before the bike was taken.
