Rear derailleur does align smallest cog
I've been messing around trying to adjust my rear derailleur for a while now with little success. I just found out that when the derailleur is completely loose (chain and derailleur cable removed), it doesn't align with the smallest cog. Strangely, what's keeping it from aligning is the L screw! If I loosen the L screw it does align, but then of course the derailleur does not align with the largest cog anymore...
Any idea what could be wrong?
Thanks!

I figured it out!! There was a spacer at the back of the cassette that was not supposed to be there, pushed the whole cassette towards the chain stays and therefore the derailleur didn't align properly...
What a day!0 -
Neither of your posts sounds like the solution.
If the cassette fitted with the spacer it must be loose without it.
The screw that affects the inner travel does not affect the outer travel.
I think you need to re assess.Yellow is the new Black.0 -
I should have mentioned that this is a Marchisio cassette, which is a bit atypical. It comes with instructions that are not too clear (at least not to me), as the way the cassette and spacers are fit depends on the amount of cogs, hub size etc.
After I removed the spacer the L screw did not affect the derailleur anymore when it was aligned with the small cog. It felt solid without the spacer, tomorrow I'll check again when I do a short test ride. I might pass the bike shop to ask if I fitted everything properly though.0
