Need to change the chain and cassette on my campag veloce gruppo.

I think the cassette is currently miche. Is there a noticeable difference between s campag chain and cassette and cheaper alternatives?

Depending on how you feel about weight, it can sometimes be the case the originals will be a bit lighter, and you can choose which ones you want. For the most part though, as long as the cassette is Campagnolo compatible it won't cause any problems, and I normally go for cheaper alternatives for cassettes and chains as they wear out fairly quickly in English weather!

I've a Miche 12-29 and a Campag Centaur 13-26 cassette. Both shift well. Ascetically, the Centaur is much more elegantly engineered.

Under a lot of torque, the Miche's teeth can sometimes seem to 'stick' to the chain during a shift - so that you can hear a 'tang' as the chain derails onto the next sprocket. Similarly, the Campag cassette is quieter when shifting. But performance seems very similar.

I've only ever used a KMC chain X10-93 chain with it's quicklink connector and that works really well. If you do go with a Veloce chain, I suggest getting the Campag-fitting KMC link to make chain changes easier.

    Thanks for your replies.

I think I’ll go with a Veloce cassette and KMC chain.

The chain is well worn on my bike so changing both. While I’m waiting for the parts am I still okay riding or will I cause damage to the front rings?

You shouldn't really have any problems with the front rings unless they are already very worn and you have beaten the crap out of the drivetrain! You'll be good to go I would say!

the Veloce cassettes are competitvely priced at Wiggle. I bought a 13-29 last week and a KMC chain from Ebay and they work extremely well together. The miche ones seem decent but at only 2-3 quid cheaper I think its better to stick with campagnolo.

Which KMC chain did you go for out of interest?
