Hi, I am a university student collecting primary market research on the middle-high end bikes market as part of my assignment. I would really appreciate it if you could take a few minutes of your time to answer some questions i have.
EDIT * I have followed a suggestion and used surveymonkey so the survey can be accessed at the following:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Q7LH9T5
To those who have already completed the survey thank you, i have already recorded your results so there's no need for you to re-do it!
Thank-you to anyone who takes part in this survey, your help is greatly appreciated!

1. How often do you cycle? Everyday
2. For what purpose do you cycle? Exercise / Competitive / Fun / (Exercise was spelt incorrectly BTW)
3. Are you aware of bikes made from bamboo? Yes
4. Would you trust bamboo as a material for a bike? Yes
5. If i told you bamboo has; a greater strength than steel, produces a stiff frame for better power transmission, is very good at damping vibration which leads to a smoother ride and it is also very damage tolerant. Would you consider using a bamboo as an alternative to a steel/carbon fibre/titanium etc if it had the same price? No (A little explanation as to why for either answer would be appreciated)
I doubt bamboo would compare favourably on weight with carbon fibre (I could be wrong), and being an organic material it’s not going to be of a consistent enough quality for high end racing bikes
6. What is the most you would spend on a bike? 1500+ (I think these catagoires are wrong if you’re assessing the middle-high end bike market which I’d say starts at £1,000+)
7. How important would you rate the option to customise a bike upon buying? Very important
Hope this helps0 -
Thankyou! I've corrected the typo. And regarding the bike categories i wasn't sure exactly what price bracket would be classed as middle-upper end so thanks for clearing that up!0

I dont think bamboo would compare on weight with carbon fibre. And wont be as consistent enough quality for frames.

Make a proper poll/survey/questionnaire here http://www.surveymonkey.com/0 -
1. How often do you cycle? Everyday
2. For what purpose do you cycle? Transport / Exercise / Competitive / Fun
3. Are you aware of bikes made from bamboo? Yes
4. Would you trust bamboo as a material for a bike? Yes

Probably not, but only for aesthetic reasons.
6. What is the most you would spend on a bike? 1500+
7. How important would you rate the option to customise a bike upon buying? Customise what? Parts or frame colours? Both important though.0 -
You need to be more specific on final question or split it down into more than one question. Are you asking about component build or fully custom geometry/finish?0

By customise, i mean options such as geometry, appearance (range of colours etc), range of components and basically having the full input into what specifications the bike will have.

Thanks alot to everyone who has taken the time to complete the survey! Over 60 people so far and I've got some very interesting replies that i wouldn't have expected. Especially for question 5, alot of you have gone into great detail and it will certainly make my report alot easier to write! Also, got the odd response that makes me chuckle0

Just an update - the survey is now closed, i collected 80 responses which is better than i anticipated so thank you to everyone who participated i really appreciate it! There were a few questions directed at me in the responses, however, i don't feel its my place to "Market" anything and so unfortunately i won't be answering them. I only have a few graphs and charts at my disposal as data, however, most of the questions answers can be found through Google.
Once again thankyou everyone0 -
Thanks to those who've completed this. In marking my students' assignments I'm trying to pick up and respond wherever they've used an online request for data.
And yes, I set them the task as part of an entrepreneurial marketing project for Bamboo Bikes!0
