Punctures doing my head in!

I keep getting thorns. Are puncture resistant tyres any good? Or better tubes such as latex or the ones with gel inside them?

some thorns can even bite through the best PR tyres too.

Do they keep out the lesser ones though? Because at least that would be fewer punctures.

 I hope that is a joke.

Conti GP4000S are great tyres and have very good puncture proofing from a kevlar band within the tyre carcass.

GP 4000S is a great tyre, also the cheaper Gatorskins may offer better protection but don't ride as well.

Get a lot of thorns round here come hedge cutting time. I've been riding Conti GP 4 Seasons for coming up to 6 years and only once had a thorn cause a puncture. On that occasion a bloody great big one like a javelin point went through the sidewall; no tyre would have survived that.

So there's some good tyres then - sounds good, I'll look in to those.

What about on the inner tube side of things - any of those any good?

I just use the cheapest butyl tubes I can find. If anything gets through the tyre an innertube isn't going to stop it.

I've certainly found the 25mm Conti GP 4 Seasons a great all round tyre choice though.

I don't use the cheapest inner tubes, quite the opposite, but it has nothing to do with puncture resistance. Its the tyre that protects you, the inner tube has nill effect on puncture resistance.

Personally I use Continental Race Supersonic tubes, about £10 and they are ultra thin and light, gives a great ride. The standard Race inners are also pretty good and somewhat cheaper (and often handed out as freebies on Sportives, they go on my winter bike)

Avoid Krylion Carbons like the plague. I took the winter tyres off my commuter last Sunday and replaced them with Krylion Carbons. Two punctures within the first two days and 60 miles (on the main roads of London and Richmond Park). They have now been consigned to the bin and replaced with Conti GP4000S which I have run on the road bike for several thousand miles without a single (I really mean it) puncture. And that includes a Lands End to John O'Groats run on all sorts of weird and wonderful roads in all sorts of weather. And the GP4000S comes in 25mm which rolls just as fast as the 23mm and provides a more comfortable ride.
