I was given a Apollo bike by a relative for our 4 year old, I graciously accepted it with the intention of getting rid as soon as poss as it weighs the same as my car, but it's pink and has pedals (she currently has a balance bike) so she became obsessed with it. So I thought I would let her have a go, first time she got 5 yards and grabbed both brakes, second time she got cocky and fell off, third time she bumped over a small Kerb and went straight through a muddy puddle " like daddy" from stabilsers to off road in 3 goes! The best bit is mrs woodmonkey agrees she needs a new bike for the summer!
pity those who don't drink, the way they feel when they wake is the best they will feel all day

My eldest (5y/o) was also given an appalling last year. It also weighs the same as an estae car and the geometry is way out for her but can't keep her off it. Think a trip to the LBS is due this summer to get a bike that she actually fits. She want'sto come mountain biking with me so its all good.

the balance bike to riding transition is a lot smoother than stabilizers through! my biggun whos now 6 1/2 told me when she wanted to come of the stab's, and rode really well, possibly somehting to do with them being Bent up quite high to stop her using them!! we went the balance bike route with the littlun 2 1/2, and she loves it, took her 3 school runs before she started the balancing, now 2 months in she Flies on it!! have the bigguns old bike with the cranks removed ready for her to move up to when she's big enough, the move to pedaling should come naturally!!
brilliant feeling when they start pedaling themselves!!
