New bike; hybrid?

I'm thinking of getting a new bike but quite fancy a hybrid. Nothing too flash and only looking to spend 2-300 quid. Ideally I want a rigid frame, MTB gearing or thereabouts, with 700c wheels that will help my average speed and preferably around the 12kg weight. Is there such a bike out there or am I looking at second hand.

Suggestions please.
