Mis Sold a bike on ebay

I bought a bike on ebay, when it arrived the bike was damaged and not as described. The front fork was cracked to the point where it´s on the verge of snapping right off. The Campagnolo Groupset consisted of Tektro Brakes a shimano cassette and the rest I didn´t get chance to look at properly, before having to leave for work (I work away).
Ebay have ruled that i can have a full refund but I have to return the bike at my own expense with a fully trackable delivery service.
A friend is returning the bike for me, as I´m still out of the country, the packaging it came in isn´t fit for purpose and is probably why it got damaged., so what could I use to wrap the bike in? Also which postal service would you recommend, it´s to Northern Ireland from England.
Thanks in advance.

Use lots of bubble wrap and an old bike box from your LBS. I've posted a few bikes via royal mail/parcel force and not had any problems for about £25-£30Basso Astra

I've had good expereinces of parcel monkey; cheap too.'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0 -
Parcel monkey were expensive for me when I wanted to post a complete bike in box, try send it now as an option.ARTHUR

Make sure you have photos of it before you send. You don't want the seller saying it got broken returning it.0

Damaged in the post doesn't usually mean switching the Campag brakes to Tekro's or switching a Campag Cassette to Shimano.
I've had similar things tried before, some unscrupulous sellers try to send you something then when you claim it isn't right they then say you cheated and kept the original.
Take Lots of Photo's and get your mate to get a signature when he delivers it.0 -
A shimano cassette isn't going to work very well with a Campag groupset if its anything over 8 speed0

Thanks for the replies and advice.
I´ve located a supply of boxes, they are outside tonight though so hope it doesn´t rain.
Just need some bubble wrap, strong tape and a carrier now.
I´ll get my mate to take the pictures as well, thats good advice.
As I said above, I had other parts to check goodness knows what they were, but of the three checks made only one was Campagnolo.0 -
Just a quick question on bike boxes, do they normally come in a size that would take the bike with wheels fitted or with the wheels off, I ask because there is a critical 150cm limit with Parcel Force, so my friend might have to adapt a box if they are going to be longer.
Parcelmonkey direct me to Nightfreight which costs 42 quid, Parcel2go say only same day delivery because of size so thats about 300, Parcelforce chip in with a very reasonable 22quid or so.
Really strong tape and bubble wrap now, and thats all sorted.0 -
can you post a link to the ad and buyer so that nobody else gets ripped off?0

Bike boxes need the wheels off.
And if the boxes are outside - why can't you bring them in ?0 -
My friend is having to do it all for me, i´m away from home, he can´t get to the shop till tomorrow, they are at the back of the shop.
Thats good about the wheels, the size will be ok for Parcelforce.0 -

You can often get away with just front wheel off depending on size of box/bike0
