Giant defy 0 or giant defy 3 composite

I suspect this marks me out as a complete newbie but I have cycled off and on for years without necessarily paying a lot of attention to what it was I was riding. I have however recently hit the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling that middle aged spread/unfit sensation...so as I can't stand running and I always enjoyed riding I will be doing 50 miles a week for leisure. I have about 1200 to spend. I have sat on and had a short ride on a friends giant defy 3 composite. It felt very comfortable and certainly a bike that I could easily see myself doing 50 miles on a weekend and hopefully a cheeky 10 on days when I get home early enough! My question is do I sacrifice slighter inferior components to go the defy composite 3 or at my level go to the defy 0 and get slightly better components? Any thoughts appreciated (and yes I will be riding both at my local lbs before deciding but just wanted a straw poll from more experienced riders.

Thanks!

Had the exact same dilemma a couple of months ago. In hindsight i could have an advanced 2 for not much more than the defy0 i eventually bought. I went alloy due to its robustness fits my lifestyle. Sort of wish i had gone carbon but as the bike does everthing i need in comfort its a fleeting wish. Certainly kept up with the 5 riders on carbon bikes i went out with last night. Happpy riding and good luck with your quest to get fitter.

Personally I,d go with the comp 3.I have the comp 2 and the frame is superb. Both great bikes and you will be happy with either.
