Is time for new shoes. Have two to choose from http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-r10-road-cycling-shoe/ OR http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Shimano-R064-SP ... _50513.htm
Now have been riding with spd should I change to spd sl?
I commute 10 to 20mile (depends on the dam wind) a day and go on weekend rides. Don't have far to walk when I get to work.

iv been riding with shimano shoes for a while and would recommend them. but have a look for the ones with the ratchet closure on them. it makes it so much easier to get a good tight fit.
hope this helpsGIANT PROPEL SL1 for racing and posing

for commuting my personal opinion is that spds are better - quicker for clipping and unclipping and the cleats last much longer, pllus you ca walk in the shoes.
As an alternative to M520 pedals also look at a520s - sometimes called touring pedals, spd fitting but have platform for a bit more support (and hence are single sided but still easier to clip / unclip than sls or look etc.Bianchi Infinito CV
