Hi I need to replace a Met Testagrossa helmet

http://www.tweekscycles.com/Product.do? ... tAodLAkAyw

I needed all but about 2-2.5cm of the width adjustment on this helmet but felt the pads were cheap and wore out very quick and was never completley happy with comfort. Anyone recommend any other model that may fit? Apprecaite helmet fit is personal but just looking for advice to narrow the search.

PS My last one served me well and did its job in recent crash  Met testagrossas appear to be discontinued but some stock seems to still be kicking around but fancy a change if possible.

  • Genuine question; why a mountain bike helmet?
Wilier Cento Uno SR 2013 in Fluro Yellow
    Cannondale Caad10 2014 in BLACK!!
  • The testagrossa was the only one I could find that fit - would be much happier with a road helmet to replace it if I can find one that fits.

Kask K50 may be a better bet, I have a huge noggin but the Mojito just wasn't right. The K50 though, well I've finally found something that makes me look normal on a bike.
  • Thanks to all - tried on all three Spesh models today (Echelon. Propero and Prevail) and they are not a good shape for my head. Loise Garneu, Catlike Whisper and Carreras didn't fit either.

The best fit I could find was Giro and the Aeon was comfiest of all. I am very tempted to take the plunge but would like to try Kask first but can't find stockists in North East England. Anyone know who stocks Kasks and if there are any on my area?

Get one mail order and send back if no good. I appreciate a local stockist is more ideal. I've got a big round bonce and tried the Kask Mojito and Laser Genesis recently (as I heard great thinks about their retention system) but the Kask was far better. Have to say though the Kask's retention system can interfere with some sunglasses so worth checking. Works a dream with my Rudy Projects by I think some Oakleys have issues.
  • Got a Lazer O2 XL recently, up to 64cm. Most 63cm helmets don't fit me, and the ones that do fit look like giant mushrooms on my giant head. The Lazer is much better. There's still some 2012 stock on eBay for £50ish.

    Same problem.
Tried and returned the Echelon and O2 as too small in biggest sizes.

Currently have a Bell XLV which us a MTB helmet which goes to 65cm and that the only one I have found so far.

That said, Giro Savant also goes to 65cm and should be here on Monday so hoping it fits and that my last option isn't wearing a wok!

    Big swedes suck don't they!?

The Specialized helmets are nice and large, but if they're the wrong shape then it's a no-go,

Of the Kasks, I found the Mojito bigger than the K50 - but neither as big as the Specialized.

If Giro's fit, then Bells may too - and they come in very big sizes.

Similar sized to the Kasks are the Met Estro and the new Mavic helmets.
  • Thanks to all - ordered a Giro Aeon and a Kask Mojito from the blameful ones so will try them hopefully Mon or Tuesday. If neither of those are ok will move on to others recomendations so many thanks. Sadly my busted shoulder from last weeks crash is still not better so couldn't get out anyway

Looks like you have already made the decision, but I will throw my three penn'th in. I also needed a Testagrossa when I first started cycling because of a big bonce, but then I wanted to "upgrade".

When I bought a new helmet, I found the Grio Ionos was a really good replacement (I didn't pay anywhere near the list price!) and it fits really well. So hopefully, the Giro Aeon will be OK.

Interestingly though, it wasn't the reveleation I was expecting. It looks good, fits well - but it's not massively lighter than the MET, nor does it keep my sweaty bonce super cool!

    Gary.
Oh and I feel like I've been raped by an Orangutan  And I've got legs like Girders

Cheers Gary D - I tried on an Ionos in the shop and quite liked it but I also tried an Aeon and felt the Aeon was much more comfortable. In the shop an Ionos was £150 and Aeon was £199 but Wiggle have the Aeon at £152 just now. So after almost buying the Ionos in the shop but balking at the price £152 for an Aeon seemed a bargain! Bonkers and illogical I know but that's how my warped cycling economics works! Having just had a major crash last week - where the Testagrossa may well have saved my life (certainly saved me from any head injuries) - my missus sanctioned a no price limit replacement helmet so it seems wise to take advantage while that limited window is open
  • Do you know what was the issue on head size, was it circumference or vertical distance [....or a 5 head?]

Think my issue is a but of both, have tried a few 64cm's which fit front to back, but sit like a pea on a drum.

The Spec Echelon is the closest Ive found to the Bell XLV I currencly use, but like the look more of the Aeon.

  • Not sure exactly what your question refers to but my problem with most helmets was the circumference (e.g. Kask was just too small - shame as it seemed a really quality helmet) but shape was with the issue with the big sized Speshs and Catlike Whisper- I found the Giro to be good on both counts. I've Had my AEON for a fair while now and very happy with it - my only complaint would be an insect net would be nice! Still won't be many around for a few months now.
