I bought a new rear wheel and my brake pads are pretty much shot. I looked on wiggle for new cartridge inserts and came across Kool Stops which come in 3 colours, Red, Black and Green. The Green ones say specifically for ceramics but I dont know if the ceramic on my new rim extends to the braking surface

If it does then the Green is the obvious one I need, if it doesnt then one of the others would do. Anybody with experience of the CD rim able to tell me is it the Green I need to buy ?

Cheers

Yes, the green are for ceramic braking surface. For better stopping power use the Swisstop greens but they do wear down a little faster. I have also used the Shimano ceramic specific pads and they seem to have about the same performance as the Koolstop greens.

The ceramic are meant to wear slower, hence you shouldn't need designer's pads... as for behaviour in the wet, you might need some special pads there, which might well be the green ones. I thought the days of Ceramic OP were over

CD and ceramic aren't the same. CD is just a hard, grey anodising. Ceramic is a special coating on the brake track of a normal black rim.

If you use the harder ceramic-specific pads on the CD rim then you'll destroy the brake track in no time, so you need to be sure. I run a ceramic on the front and just use std blocks. The ceramic blocks are harder and have less feel.

Ahhh... CD... nothing to do with ceramics then... they are the same thing as Archetype... hard anodised over the machined surface.
Use normal pads... the grey will wear off regardless and attempts to preserve it are a waste of time

checked with LBS who sold it to me and dura-ace 7900 inserts were highly recommended so i purchased them. £8 a set from crc , great price.
