I've been looking into upgrading my btwin wheels and i think i'll be buying some fucrulm racing 5's.
i read this review on evans where a guy claims he took 13 mins out of a 25k ride after riding:
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/fulcrum/racing-5-clincher-2013-wheelset-ec040513#reviews
This sounds to good to be true, does anyone have any similar experiences after a wheel upgrade? :?:

Sounds like a load of old cobblers to me.
It would follow that over 30 miles, he would be 26 minutes quicker?
Cobblers indeed.0 -
Yes, it's too good to be true. It also casts a little doubt over his professed 'expert' status.
Either that or i got a duff set of fulcrum 5s, the ones without the motor.
Ignoring internet nonsense, however, these are good wheels for the price and I'm very happy with mine. The feeling of riding nicer wheels than you're used to is great and always puts a big grin on my face. The psychosomatic effect, even without anything else, is normally enough to make me go a little faster.0 -
Complete and utter bo((ocks. they're not even aero.0

unless he had no bearings in the old set...0

haha!
thought it must be BS!
I've just ordered some Fulcrum 5's anyway, will let you all know how i get on with them. First time changing wheels / removing cassette so fingers crossed...Canyon CFSL8

25km is less than an hour's riding - so if that is the improvement you get with these (about a 25% increase in speed), I am having some!
No - wheels (and in particular, tyres) make a difference to speed - but nowhere in those sort of numbers. From my faster, lighter wheels (with better rolling tyres) to my heavier wheels with slower rolling tyres - around Richmond Park laps, it makes 2-3% difference in overall lap time.0 -
I dare say he may have meant seconds but he may also be being a twat.
Would these be better than the Alex Rims Race 28 that came with my bike? Pity they don't come in white.
Also can you get deep dish alu rims? Not sure I am ready for carbon rims.Scott Speedster S20 Roadie for Speed

I thought this was an easy thing to do, if Strava this week is anything to go by. Just pick yourself a straightline flat section, wait for a stupidly strong tailwind and off you go. Sorted*
*disclaimer: not so good for sections that loop back into the wind.0 -
Me says that if you start from a PB of 60 minutes... it is relatively straightforward, while if you start from a PB of 35 minutes, it is impossible... anything in between is various shades of grey...left the forum March 20230

unless this guy was realy unfit before and was riding a different bike, this will be absolute rubbish. having said that my improvements are all down to fitness and confidence and around 2% to do with the wheel upgrade i did.0
