Cycle 2 Work

Hi just looking for some advice..

I'm hoping to convince my HR Dept. to setup the cycle to work scheme. But my problem and worry, is that my journey to work isn't ideal as a bike ride. Lots of big dual caridgeways, and main roads. So with the best will in the world I can't see myselfs actually doing much biking to work.

However I'd still like to apply for a bike via the scheme.

I will ofcourse be doing lots of evening and weekend cycling. So I intend to rack up plenty of miles each week.

The scheme states that the bikes should be used for at least 50% biking to work. But adds journeys do not have to be logged and recorded. So I'm just wondering how policed this rule actuall is. Has anyone reading this had a bike via the scheme, but then done little actuall commuting. Choosing more to ride in the evenings, or at the weekend for longer rides or even a few sportives.

I'd be interested in any feedback.

Thanks,
Jon

As the company that you work for doesn't log or record your cycling to work surely they're can't be any comeback if you only do a few rides to work. I plan to ride to work and back perhaps 2 or 3 times a month over the summer. This is a much as is practically possible for me.

Some people never ride to work but still use the scheme...

PS why the new identical thread?

The other thread was trying to help me understand the operation of the scheme. I wanted to know about the fmv and all that.

Now I know more about the scheme I want to convince my hr dept to set the scheme up. Just worried that actually I might not be eligible for a bike because its unlikely I'll ride to work. The question sort of changed so that's why I opend up a new thread.

    Hope you understand.

I want to be able to use the scheme ride more get fitter mental and physical. It's just looking for reassurance that not riding to work will be a handicap making me ineligiable.
