Hi All, I am going to upgrade to a new summer bike, limit of £1000, and have 3 bikes in mind. Anything less than £1k will go towards new pedals and shoes....

Canyon Roadlite AL 6 = £910 delivered
http://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bik ... ab-reiter2

Mekk 2G Poggio = £839
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/mekk-2g-poggio-p20-105/

Boardman Road Team = £900 (after 10% BC discount)
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165710

Each has their good points and bad points. The Canyon seems a cracking deal and I love the colour schemes but I cant sit on one. The Mekk is carbon but with a lower groupset and heavier wheels and the Boardman has to be bought from Halfrauds.

I would appreciate your views on these 3, please.....

It would be between the Canyon and the Boardman, for me. Both good spec bikes for the money and have good reputations. On Sunday club rides, you will quite a lot of both brands.

If dealing with Halfords bothers you (it shouldn't) then get it delivered to your home fully built, just like the Canyon would be.

If anything went wrong, I would want it to be on the Boardman with the Halfords network for warranty support.

You can get a CAAD 10 105 from 2012 for between £1,000-1,100 at the moment.

Must say, Halfords were brilliant with dealing with my Boardman. Originally when I got it the seat post was slipping, even with carbogrip etc, so they replaced the post and clamp no problems, didn't solve it, so they got me a brand new frame and had it all swapped over in days and I've still got the second seat post and clamp as spares.

    Get the Boardman.

I have a MEKK, and personally I'm very pleased with it. It's a decent bike for the money despite the wheels/tyres (soon to be upgraded). Only issue I have is the 31.2mm seat post which doesn't help reduce vibration, even with the carbon frame.

Hi Cheddarpaul, add code A13AB03 to your order at checkout online to receive another 10% off. Reserve price online will then be £900 which will then take the Boardman down to £810 total when combined with your BC voucher. A little more money towards pedals and shoes etc.

Alternatively (and my own choice would be) you could go for a Boardman Team Carbon, currently on offer for £1169.99, apply the aforementioned code to the basket contents online, this would take the bike down to approx £1053, reserve the bike for pick up from your local store and then redeem your BC voucher upon purchase, this will take the total down to approx £948.

You will not get a better deal for the money in my opinion and still leaves £50 odd quid for pedals.

Act fast if your going to as i am not sure when these offers expire.

    Thanks all

I cant see the Boardman Carbon below £1299.99, where is it on offer for the lower price? At just over £800 the alu Boardman seems a bargain!

The offer on the Carbon must have ended last night/this morning however as you say at approx £800 for the Alu version is still an exceptionally good price.

Were you the Boardman fanboy who was looking forward to 'seeing Boardman bikes being ridden in the Tour De France' when the team using them weren't even racing?

Canyon would arrange the pick up of your bike for you via UPS.

I wouldn't get a canyon as sizing can be a bit hit and miss. I have seen too many on these forum where clearly people have got sizing wrong.
At least with boardman you can go to your local halfords and try them for size.

Can you point to these examples? After all you would have to get the sizing badly wrong, because much adjustment can be made with stem length, spacers etc.

Funnily enough I have a Boardman(CX) and a Canyon. Found Halfords woeful, had plenty of issues & when I was last in to get a spoke fixed the guy charged me for the spoke even though the manager had agreed to give it for free on the phone. Was only £1 or something, but given the trouble I've had with the bike I thought it was shocking to take that.

Havent had a chance to test the Canyon service yet, but cant be worse thats for sure.

The Mekk has excellent reviews on the wiggle website from those who have ridden it and at some stage for all choices listed above you may want to upgrade the wheels. FWIW they all look cracking bikes.

Well that's thrown a clanger in the works, Halfords wont let me use both the online code AND the British Cycling voucher (probably not unreasonably)...
Looks like the Canyon wins it with full 105 through-out, unless there's something else out there??

    Radon? http://www.bike-discount.de/shop/k1847/a78688/r1.html

My Mrs has one of their MTBs and it's a good spec/price, I just ordered one of these R1s last week but havent had it delivered yet, full 105 (ok Tiagra chain/cassette) groupset.
