Best bike for £1000

Hi all open to suggestions max budget £1000 or just over bike will be used for cycling to work, xc and the odd trial looking for 100mm travel any more would be over kill also has to be a hardtail and on cws many thanks

To the strict rules you can pay no more, as the bike isn't yours which bits are and aren't if you 'top up'?Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Ah ha but who decides like I said my employer has said they have'nt got a problem I even know of two employee's who have both brought cubes over the 1000 pound limit and even still pauls cycles said yes as long as my employer didn't have a problem, but what do you think of the reaction sl 999.99 better fork, wheels but not carbon frame?0
