8 speed chain spacing

Evening, got a Shimano 2300 groupset on my road bike and tried my chain checker which I use on my mtb's and the 1mm spacer drop straight through the pins. Now I haven't had the road bike that long so not a large amount of miles on it so I was wondering if the spacing on an 8 speed chain was bigger than the 9 speed?

I might well need a new chain but wanted to check before ordering a new on to replace a fully functional part.

All chains have the same pitch, they only vary in width.FWIW The 1.0 on your chain checker refers to % elongation
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

And once you've reached 1% chain wear there's a good chance the cassette will be worn too. See if when you've fitted a new chain it starts skipping under load...

Thanks for the feedback, chain ordered and will get a cassette if required. Still a little shocked its worn already . . .
