Again, what good will a sub 4 kg bike do for you?

Absolutely. We should all be riding 25kg clunkers.

That's impressive, but carbon rings and a metal chain? Surely not a good combination? ....Must shift really bad!

Fibre-Lyte rings are super solid. Loads of the TT crowd use them as well as the WW lot. When it come to carbon they know what they're doing.

Just over 6kg. Look at the quality of components that guy is using.
Addict HMX = stiff as a pornstar on viagra
AX Lightness Morpheus w/ Fibre-Lyte Rings = there's stiffer, but it would be splitting hairs
AX Lightness stem and bars = bit of flex, but considering the lack of effort everywhere else perfectly acceptable

Sorry to sound silly but do you mean these are quality components or not?

May not look great but I'd like to blast it up box hill and find out if a lighter bike makes the difference I'm told to believe..

    Impressive build.

You need to have deep pockets for a project like that. Not keen on the look, but that's not the point really.

Does it make a difference? Ride up a decent hill. Then do it again with EIGHT full water bottles strapped all over your bike. Me thinks the answer is emphatically, yes!

How much would something like that typically cost?

The wheels were 15,000 euros alone a few years back

    http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/h ... els-12670/

    Handlebars 420 euros
    Rear derailleur 1200 euros
    Fork 800 euros

If all the parts were bought new that would be +/- 25,000 euros or about 20 grand GBP

I've been browsing weight weenies for the past couple of days and came across this

The bike itself has had all of it's beauty sacrificed for a huge loss of weight. It weighs 3.9 kg and looks fooking hideous. This weight weenie stuff is a terrible, pricey obsession.

Weightweenies is probably not the site for you

You have to be either stupidly rich or plain stupid to do something like that for the sake of 2-3kg. I sincerely hope for his sake he is a top top cyclist.

Wealth and cycling ability are irrelevant. That bike shows total dedication and I applaud him for that. Good photography would have made it look a lot prettier though.

    Wow.

I am no weight weenie (ride a big lump of steel with a triple and mudguards) - but that really is quite something. Goes to show what can be achieved when freed from the UCI constraints (and have a huge wodge of cash to spend on the project).

    Amazing stuff.

I am glad (and so is the Bank Manager) that I am not a weight weenie - that does get to be a frightening(ly expensive) obsession.

So by that logic, someone who buys a Porsche 911 is stupid for not buying a Skoda to get from A to B when they are not a racing driver?

Or someone who buys a 6 bedroom mansion in the country is stupid for not buying a 1 bed mid terrace on a housing estate?

People spend their money how they like, whether you agree or think it makes sense or not. 20 grand on a bike may seem excessive to you if you are on 10 grand a year. If you are on 100 grand a year it may be pocket change. It's all relative.

Precisely this, it's a hobby and the aim on WW is to have a light bike, people spend hundreds of thousands on hi-fi, watches, cars, if that's where they want to spend their money, good for them.

I know was a bit of a short sighted comment by myself, I guess more envious than I had liked. Still seemed very excessive to me, but hey if he has the means then go for it! I just hope he didnt have to remortgage his house for it! :)
