Was offered a one year old Scott Foil by a friend who has just moved over to a Cervelo. Has anyone got any info on sizing? The bike is a 52cm frame but he says its closer to being a 50 - 51 in real terms. I am 5'6" so im borderline on the height. I ride 53cm (Bianchi) frames usually so I dont want to get it if its going to be on the small side for me.

I always thought Scott came up large ?!
Im 5' 7" and ride 51cm Cervelo's which fit me nicely....anything bigger (more importantly longer top tube) would be far to large  ....dont you feel your 53 Bianchi is a little large ?

Bianchi frames fit me fine. I did try a 50cm before I bought and it felt too small. I have had 3, still own 2 and they are right for me. My legs are a bit longer for my height than I would say is normal so thats maybe why. I have looked for sizing for Scott but not found anything that recommends size frame for height etc. Do you think the 52cm would be around the same as what I have or bigger if you think they come up larger?

Find the geometry tables for both bikes and compare. The main thing that will determine fit will be the effective top tube as this is going to determine the reach. As for Seat tube length its not so important as the seatpost height will be adjustable. Its worth noting if the angle of the seat tube is similar as this will also effect reach especially if you need a lot of seatpost showing. If your still unsure then take a ruler and protractor and draw the geometry of the frame out as a line drawing (to scale). This will give you an idea of where the contact points will lie.
  • toptube is an identical 53.5mm according to the geo charts.
the sempre has a slightly taller head tube comparatively but I think it will fit.
Just take it out for a test ride since it's your friend I suppose he wouldn't mind.
I don't know if it will actually beat your sempre. It's billed as a bike with aero
advantage and is generally a very advanced bike but the sempre isn't a piece of dough either.

Curious to hear your experience with them both..

I am 5'7" and bought a small Scott Foil Premium a few weeks ago......can't even begin to describe how great the bike is.....fast, handles really well, very minimal flex for such an aero frame....would take a lot for me to go to a different brand

Hah, deffo wont be anything like the Sempre!!!! Was just a very good offer from a friend. I wouldn't mind a second bike to mix it up a bit. Sometimes I get a bit worried about damage to my Bianchi in competition that an alternative for poor weather conditions might not be a bad idea.

Think the bike will fit you if the geometry is like the other scotts such as my Speedster.

I guess we need grill on this thread!

    Sorry I'm late!

I'm 5'11" and ride the Foil in a 54 (M). Most people my size would ride it in a 56, but as my bottom 3 vertebrae are fused I don't have the reach. The nice thing about the smaller Foils (M and below) is they use zero (or is it 10 degree?) setback seat posts, so even though the 52 has a TT of 535mm, the seatpost and slacker seat tube angle will make it feel more compact. Is it the right size for you? Can't say for certain, but if you're used to Bianchi's in a 53 then I don't think you'll have a problem.

Thanks for the help. Think I will give it a good bit of consideration. Must admit I would not normally look at a Scott but a Foil is too good a bike to ignore.

Grill, what do you think of the Syncros RR 2.0 wheels? Can you compare them to the Ksyrium Elite or Equipe? Can't find much info on them

Along a similar vein, I've seen a 2012 Foil 30 in size 52 at local dealer going for a good price and I'm wondering if it will fit me? I'm only 5ft.3in. but comparatively long in the leg and short in the body.

My current bike is a size 42 Eddy Merckx AMX-1 with an effective top tube of 519mm (and a 90mm stem), compared to the 535 of the Foil. I'm thinking the Foil is a little too big, but only just. I need somebody to give me an idea, so i don't make an expensive mistake. :D

I have a Scott Speedster in XS which is a 49cm which I think is one size too small for me @ 5'6", it would probably be the ideal size for you. The foil may be one size too big.

Yeah, that's what I reckon too. Shame, as it looks to be an amazing bike.

The Sempre in a 53 and Foil in a 52 have almost Identical geometry. Both have an ETT of 53.5 with the Scott have a 10mm shorter HT, but the Semrpre has .5 degree more aggressive HT angle. Realistically these frames are interchangeable in terms of geometry.

@Fred- The Synchros kit is solid and I prefer the wheels to the Cosmic Elites that were specced on the 2012 models. The only place I fee they went down a peg is on the Premium which used to have Zipp 404s which I feel are better value than the RR1.0 Carbon.
