Hope you can help me to make a decision...as I'm stuck between three options;

1. Boardman Comp £650 (-10% so would be ~£600)
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165499

2. Rockrider 8.1 £549 (but nearest store to go and see one is miles away!)

3. Carra Fury £599 (-10% so would be ~£550)

Am having real difficulty seeing the woods for the trees now between the three. All seem to be good options for me; I spend about 60-75% of time on roads getting mileage in for fitness, but am really getting into spending more time offroad (North Downs and Box/Leith Hill etc) and can see that time going up. At present am riding a 15yo clunker, which weighs a tonne and is skipping gears all over the place.

As I don't understand :oops: the differences between SRAM 5/7's or 7005 vs 6061 type frames....could you help me with a little technical help and understanding between the three bikes?

Thanks!

    The Boardman, best fork of the three or the RR for VFM, Fury falls in the middle but is outpointed in both directions.

    SRAM - the higher the number the better the quality, will also be lighter (not necesarily any more robust though).

    7005/6061 are different alluminium alloys with different alloying agents (100% alluminium is pretty useless as a material) and different heat treating to optmise the properties - not perfect but close! http://www.ehow.com/info_7857163_6061-v ... bikes.html
    Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

    I'd have a look on Paul's cycles for some older models.

    Boardman. I've the next model up (the Team), and like it a lot ... there won't be much in the way of sacrifice on the spec of the Comp.

    My wife has the Fury - its alright, and has had good reviews, but I don't much like riding it ... feels significantly heavier than the (my) Boardman. The fork on the Fury is OK, but I lent the bike to a mate for a wet and muddy ride a couple of months ago, and the fork hasn't been the same since (and others have commented on here about that on the Raidon fork) ... the epicon would be a better fork.
