Anyone know where I can get a reasonably priced headset for an old Raleigh medale circa 1979 ish.

It is threaded.

    Depends...
You need to measure the height of the stack of your current headset and get something similar, within 2-3 mm. Stronglight threaded headsets are typically reasonably priced and good quality... if you can spend a little more and if it fits, Campagnolo Record is for life.

Have you considered changing the bearing balls only?

The stack height, is the total height of all the headset components when installed... so the height of the bottom cup + top + nuts.. typically it is a number around 32-42 mm.
It is important as your fork needs to be the correct length for your headset, not too short or it won't fit, not too long or part of the thread will be exposed looking ugly

Raleigh had their own headset size, think the TPI of the forks was different to the standard 24tpi.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
