Going to treat my Genesis Equilibrium to a new chain, current one is what came with the bike (10 speed Shimano 105 chain). Any recommendations for a better chain for around the same price (give or take a fiver) or should I just replace like for like?

Also need a chain for a 9 speed campag bike I'm building up, cheaper the better as long as it does the job!

Please post url to any decent deals you've seen

Cheers!

KMC 9 speed for the campag 9 speed bike, should be about £13 well that what I do them for.

Exactly my thoughts. I've always got on best with KMC chains.

As a chain contain signiicantly more moving parts than another bit of your bike, there is a school of thought that says you should by the best you can afford.

If you are running 105 now then it might be worth looking at the X10L from KMC. Slightly lighter and nicer quality that the standard X10. I have never been convinced with the X10SL, I figure there is a cut off point for shaving bits of metal off one's chain where the increased risks overtake marginal weight savings. Didn't have a problem with the one I tried though.

I now only have 9 speed bikes and use X9L on all 3 (Campag and Shimano as the same chain works for both).
