Cassette Help!?
Ok, so here's the deal. I'm running a BBB 10 speed Shimano compatible cassette on my race wheels at the moment, with junior gearing (so a 14-25). Like this: http://bbbcycling.com/bike-parts/cassettes/BCS-10S.
Problem is, my new team bike has Campag 10 speed on it, which according to Sheldon has wider sprocket thickness and spacer thickness. (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/gloss_sp-ss.html#spacingk7)
I don't have the money to change hubs, but then it occurred to me that BBB also make a campag cassette (http://bbbcycling.com/bike-parts/cassettes/BCS-10C). The sprockets on the shimano and campag cassettes are likely the same width, with just different spacers.
So, could I use some campag compatible spacers such as these http://www.sdeals.com/oscommerce/product_info.php/products_id/246 to run the same cassette cogs with campy spacing on a shimano freehub? They say not compatible with campag sprockets as they're too wide, but surely the shimano type ones I have now would negate that issue? Thoughts please!

Never actually had campag [ just shimano & Sram] but my understanding is that the splines themselves are different so that you cannot actually physically fit them on even if you do sort the spacing out. Part of the differentiation of the two companies and its not by accident!
Sometimes it is possible to buy another freehub if your wheelset does a shimano and a campag version.0 -
My point is that I have a shimano hub and a shimano cassette, that's made up of separate sprockets and spacers in between. In theory I should be able to just use some spacers to change the gaps between each sprocket, not buy a new cassette!
I can't get another freehub for that hub (shimano r500), so I was asking if I could space out a shimano compatible cassette differently to make it work."Orbea, Bianchi, Ridley, Van Nicholas, Planet X, Niner. My Euro-bike menagerie was going well up to the last 2..."0 -
My mate fitted a shim. wheel & 9sp. cassette onto a campag. veloce 10sp.rear mech. he did it to get a 34t. bottom gear, put the mech. on the 34t. adjust the limit screw & remember to not use the 10th. "click". No matter what anybody says it runs sweet & changes crisply, I know what I see & hear.0
