Hi I'm currently looking to get a new cross bike on cycletowork scheme. Any suggestions? I've got a Ridley Xbow and was looking for something with discs for races and ultimately the 3 peaks. Cheers

    Me too.

Stumbled across the Revolution Cross Pro the other day for £850 - looks good value & flexible. BB5s & Tiagra. Take full guards & 38mm tyre (35 with guards). They take do cyclescheme. Top of my list at the moment.

Boardman looks very good but I need somewhere that offers cyclecheme (not R2W or other schemes), so Halfords is out.

You could go for a Genesis of course. Popular choice, try Real Cycles. Vapour disc?

For a grand the Merida cross bike looks really good too - has 105 & discs.

If you can spend a bit more (by topping up over the 1000) limit the Planet X carbon cross bikes look good - they are generally pretty flexible with cyclescheme. Nice specs.

Let me know what you choose.

You could get the Cannondale Caadx with Shimano 105 for £100 over budget or just on budget with Tiagra? Great bikes, a mate had one and it was lovely.

Ridley would be top of my list.

I've heard the Ridley is really stiff, which is fine for a one hour race or road duties. If you are spending hours off road you may want something more comfortable? Horses for courses I guess...

  • Saw the Revolution bike in their Newcastle store the other day, it's a really, really smart bike at a cracking price imo...

Great - thanks. The value is there for certain.

Anybody ridden one or own a revolution cross pro?

Back in October, it was a toss-up between the Boardman CX Team & a Cube Cross Race. I decided on the Boardman purely and simply because I'd have had to wait until now (Mar '13) for the Cube...

So far so good with the Boardman. The only thing I would say is buy it boxed and build it yourself or take it to a reputable LBS & get them to build it & check it over (if you haven't got the skills) especially the the Bottom bracket bearings are greased fully! I bought mine at the old price (with an additional 10% off voucher from British Cycling too!)

I've fitted mine with Schwalbe Durano 25's & fitted SKS Bluemel mudguards and it's the perfect commuter/winter trainer!
