Hi,
Early last year I was suffering severe hip pain and was told that cycling was no longer an option and I should give it up, after giving up cycling I was referred to an excellent hip surgeon and they have eased my hip pain and removed some nasty fragments of bone Now I have the all clear to cycle again... only problem is I sold my bike stuff...
I have been to my LBS today and had a look at a few options and they recommended a Giant Defy 1 and sized me up as a small, it felt comfortable and with the excellent reviews online I am very drawn to it, before I buy are there any other options I should consider in the 1K region?? I tried a couple of Cannondale road bikes but they felt more 'race' position.
I have also had a look round at women specific bikes but don't feel you get the same value for money.
Any advice/comments appreciated.
Thanks
Sarah

I like the Boardman Team Carbon Fi for my wife. Carbon frame/forks and 105.
They were doing them for £999 but seem to have sold out now and am not sure whats happening. ie new model?
List is £1300 or £1170 with British Cycling (so I have been told) membership.
Not sure how ride position compares though.0 -
Have you had the chance to take the defy out for a ride (assuming you just sat on one to assess it felt comfortable).
These like the defy have a relaxed geometry:
1. Specialized Secteur.
2.Cannondale Synapse.
3. Ribble Sportive .
4. Felt Z95.0 -
My last bike was the Boardman Carbon Fi, lovely ride but fancied a change this time round
I didn't get change to take it out for a ride as had my son with me and I couldn't leave him in the shop. Have a free day Friday so trying to get some models in mind and ring round a few more shops.0 -

Always good to try out bikes - it goes to say buy the one you feel best on. Saying that the Defy has had spectacular reviews, I expect its bigger brother the advanced will be the cycling plus bike of the year.0 -
I had to switch my working days round so managed to get out this afternoon looking and tried out a few bikes, In the end I chose a Cannondale Synapse 105 women's 2103 bike - should be picking it up Friday or Saturday0
