I was looking at these in my LBS today and was quite taken with them. Wider aero rims for 2013 and still DT240 internals. Has anyone got/ridden/worked with these and happy to share experiences?

  • I think the hubs are DT 350 not 240, but still good.

I wonder who comes up with names like "roval fusee" FFS...

    I don't know.

Do they have a cone-shaped pulley with a helical groove around it?

I think you could be right re the internals, having looked again at the spec. Star ratchet though anyway I think.

Well I've taken the plunge. Should be a much better all-round option than my Roval Rapide SL45s. Lighter, more forgiving, and a lot less ostentatious. Going to try the new S-works Turbo 24 tyres with them too.

Yep - someone who likes their mechanical clocks to keep good time!
    Faster than a tent.......
  • Still, they come with a name more appropriate for a peanut butter based spread...

Very good Rolf, I thought it was just me. :D

I have a vintage 1960s Omega Seamaster Automatic with light blue dial... kind of a one off piece, very cool... the glass is cracked, any advice on where to get it replaced with an original or lookalike?

Ugo, I presume you'd know that Roval are a French company that marketed the first set of 'factory built' wheels back in the 80s, particularly with their own design hubs?
The first Specialized Roval wheels were heavy and badly built - they were so bad, Quickstep had all theirs sent to Campagnolo to get fixed.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

It's the "fusee" bit that sounds spreadable... I should market my own "Pindakaas" model for the Spring Classics...

Thanks, I was not aware of Roval Pedigree...

I always seem to read bad reviews of Roval wheels but the Echapee's I bought a couple of years ago have been great. Used/abused over a couple of winters and wet rides (i.e. most of the rest of the year to), never serviced them and they're still going strong. It's a shame they don't seem to make them any more.
  • Yes i have a set of Roval Fusee sl on my 2008 sworks, after 2,000 kms non drive side spoke were broke at the nipple.
Then the second time, they even could not match the right colour spoke...as they come with two different colour spokes.
My wieght is 180 lbs well with in these limits of the wheels

My LBS store sent my rear wheel back to Specialized... after my issues concerns, and i sent Specialized a detail email stating i only ride this bike in good conditions, and on decent roads... always tuned the bike up and had the wheels trued .and after being stranded 2 times in the middle of no where.. once on a long chairty ride.
I have no faith in these anymore, amd after other users commenting on their issues
The rep contacted me and said he would give me a good deal on a new set ($200) which i felt for all my troubles they should of honoured them as replacement no charge.. the Fusee slx 2012
I have put 100 miles on them they seem good as my first set ,but will have to seee after 2 000 kms.
This doubt has lead me to buy new custom set ...from another brand..at $300 less than Roval

There are reviews on these and some have stated the same non drive side rear spoke breaks,
You should know that, there are only 8 spokes on the rear non drive side, and 16 on drive side.

In my opinion and experience, i would stay away from these until there is proof on the durability of these wheels considering the $ 1 000 plus for these.

And Specilaized should honour these issues with full replacement as many owners of these have had issue and pnce and for all take care of their customer and supply great wheels for these prices!
Fiixng only the one spoke on the same side is not good enough as, the the rest others will break, as what my LBS mechanic stated its following the spoke...

You can invest your money on a custom wheel set for less with much better features quality durability

As much as i enjoy my Sworks, i would not ever touch Roval wheels again

Its very sad that my $300 wheels on my other bike survived a crash at 35km plus rim slightly dented and after truing still on my other training bike..
