Pain in the Shoulder

Hi all,
I have been road cycling now for 2 years on my Specialized Allez, once I have been out for more than 10 miles I start to develop an ache in my right shoulder (never have problems with my left), when I change hand positions on the bars (I do this frequently to help the ache) I get a really really sharp shooting pain in my shoulder joint.
This becomes a real problem on longer rides and often leaves my shoulder feeling painful for a day or two after. I never get this with my MTB and different bar positions do not help.
Anyone had similar problems and could offer any advice?

my guess is it is not a cycling related injury, unless you've crashed. Sharp shooting pain means you must have overstretched a tendant. The reason why you might not feel it as much on your MTB is because there's generally less 'weight' on the frontwheel and typically a more neutral handposition. The way to check is to rotate and turn your arm while off the bike to see if there any position you feel impedes your movement. Some massage may help but just allow it to heal.
Got luck and keep your hands on the bars! (no pun intended)0 -
Get your setup checked by a professional. You're much more static on a road bike compared to MTB so your weight distribution and so on tend to be more keenly felt.- - - - - - - - - -

shouldnt that be the other way around?
more positions on a road bike than a mtb'dont forget lads, one evertonian is worth twenty kopites'0 -
You're using your body a lot more on a MTB as you work to tackle the path (unless you're just road riding on it, which isn't really MTB, is it?). On a road bike you only really stand up when you're tackling a really tough hill or trying to generate a lot of acceleration; a lot of it is spent in one position.- - - - - - - - - -
