SRAM / Shimano chainsets

I have one bike running Sram red with a compact chainset

I also have another bike running a 53-39 Ultegra chainset with a mixed, but all shimano groupset.

The question is, will there be a problem sticking the Ultegra chainset on the otherwise Sram equipped bike?

I've signed up for a couple of flatish sportives and don't want to splash out on a new Sram chaniset (particularly ont a Red one) but also don't want to do damage or have hassles with the rest of the sram groupset.

Thanks for any advice.

you will need to change the BB as well but otherwise no probs. other than chain length.

Thanks. Have a suitable BB on the other bike so no problem - good point about chain length, will have to check that out

....and you'll need to adjust the front mech to cater for the 53 ring.

If you are running a 12-25 cassette or that type on your compact set up, why not pop a cassette with an 11 ring on instead. Far quicker and less hassle and riding 50-11 should give you a big enough gear even for flat areas.
