Hi there,

sorry that this is to be my first post on this excellent forum (I've been lurking for a while now), but I've been trying to find out myself, and I'm not having much luck!

I'm looking for a nice road/race bike to replace my Dawes as I'm training a lot more now and its more 'mountain bike' styling isn't what I like using.

I found this on Ebay, and wondered if someone might be able to verify it for me?

The fellow who is selling it says it is a Cinelli that has been resprayed. Initially I thought the seat cluster looked wrong, but have since found other Cinellis with the same, then I thought the lack of lugged construction on the forks was strange and, again, have found other 80's Cinellis with this feature. It has a Shimano 600 groupset and Cinelli bars/stem.

Just wondering if it's a goer or not?

here is the link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130850847970? ... 1423.l2648

and item number: 130850847970

Again, I'm sorry make this my first post, but I could really use the help of someone who knows better!

Thanks in advance for the help!

Deej

It's a lovely looking bike and would be nice to have as a +1

However I think you may be better going for something a bit newer. Look out for a 2nd hand alloy road bike, if you're patient you can get something for about £300 that will be well suited to long rides and parts will be easy to source.
  • Thanks for the reply Pete.

Well, I had a go on a friends steel-framed bike and really enjoyed it, so I thought it might be the way to go.

I haven't really tried any alloy bikes for a while. I thought as well, by going back a little way, I might be able to get something a bit better spec'd vs going for something newer, if you see what I mean?

It's likely to be the other way round. Entry level bikes these days are of a pretty high standard as technology and production plus economies of scale trickle down.

It may have been built with a Cinelli BB shell, but that doesn't mean it's a Cinelli-built frame and it's certainly not a Super Corsa, but they did produce lesser frames. Upside is that a Cinelli BB generally does indicate a quality build. It really depends on how much money it goes for - it'll likely go for £200+, based on the frame as there's little money in 1980's 600 kit.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • I think I'm gonna give it a pop anyway. I've been oggle-ing this bike all week

I'll let you know how I get on, finishing soon.
  • Ah well, I went £201.99, and the person above must have put at least a fiver more. Seemed like a nice bike, but I'm not too flush at the moment. Thank you all very much for the advice and opinions though. Much appreciated.
