DuraAce Di2 11-speed hub compatibility
I'll soon be the proud owner of a spanking new bike rocking DuraAce Di2 11-speed and I'm wondering if it'll be compatible with my DuraAce C24 wheels (from 2011) and if not if there's anything I can do to adjust them to make them compatible?
I'm looking to buy some Gigantex 50mm tubulars from Wheelsmith and I'll ask him the details when we discuss it, but will it basically mean I need 11-speed-specific hubs so won't easily be able to interchange wheels between the new bike and my current Shimano 10-speed trainer bike?

In this brief article, it appears that the mechanical groupset can work, 10s cassette and older 7900/7850 wheels - whether there is any adjustment with Di2 11s is up to you to find out!0 -
Yes you will need an 11 speed hub.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0

Dura Ace 7900 and 7850 wheels are not compatible with 11 speed and there is no retro-fittable freehub body to make them 11 speed unfortunately. The 11 speed factory Shimano wheelsets are WH-9000 Dura Ace, WH-RS61 Ultegra level tubeless compatible and WH-RS21.0

Yes all very intersting and we can all read the Shimano blurb, but Wayne S one of the head guys in Shimano USA managed a fix, using 11s and a 7900 10s cassette and at the very least there is no reason not to drop a cog on a 9000 cassette and fit that.0

Thanks for the replies folks. Bit of a bummer that the hubs on my current C24s can't be swapped for an 11-speed-compatible hub - I love those wheels and hate the idea of having to buy a new set (as I'm already buying deep rims for racing). This idea of dropping a cog sounds interesting - would it not mess up the Di2 configuration? If you have a link you could share I'd certainly like to read up on the possibilities.0 -
when you spend that kind of money on a bike, you can't then botch up a solution on the cheap... you have to swallow it and get new wheels with the wider hub, I supposeleft the forum March 20230
