In a moment of madness ive sold my current road bike and am now on the hunt for a new one. Basically have a budget of £1200, happy to but new or 2nd hand and wondered if anyone had spotted any decent bargains recently.
Size wise im after a standard medium fit and shimano 105 or ultegra, been contemplating a rose carbon pro sl 2000 but before i take e plunge thought i would check if anyones seen anything else worth contemplating, wiggle have a couple of mekk bikes in dont know a great deal about the brand or the bikes.
Thanks in advance !

Thats easy to say if you have the cash, but some people need to sell to free up cash to buy. Hard times we live in dude.0 -

If that's the case, then have your next bike chosen and exactly where you will buy it from and its availability confirmed, otherwise you could end up with a bike that you don't like or a lot of weeks of missed training.0 -

Agreed, or assemble enough parts for a build and then just buy a frame.0 -
Seeming as this is a road buying advice forum and no advice has been given yet..........
I bought a cannondale supersix in November last year. There is a 105 version for a few extra quid. The frame is fantastic, the sram apex is ok and pretty comparable with 105.
I'd always try to get a better frame and upgrade the components when they wear out.

I bet the OP used to copy other peoples homework at school tooYellow is the new Black.0 -
I see... I hadn't realised the advice is proportional to the quality of the question rather than the experience of the original poster.

No but when i want advice/help on buying a new bike i foolishly thoughT a forum entitled 'road buying advice' would be useful.ShutUpLegs wrote:Never sell your old bike before buying a new one.
Very true but i dont have the cash to spend until the last bike was soldPercy Vera wrote:SmoggySteve wrote:ShutUpLegs wrote:Never sell your old bike before buying a new one.

You take offence at me asking a question about buying a bike in the buying a bike section of a bike forum ? Thanks for your input, its been invaluable.thebadgerboy1982 wrote:Seeming as this is a road buying advice forum and no advice has been given yet..........

Thanks badgerboy, i will take a look0 -
Mr sj, the reason for my ever so slightly factious answer was in response to your rather open ended question, for £1200 you could buy a bike from virtually any manufacturer, mainstream or otherwise, you can also get an opinion on evey manufacturer good or bad in here, and as for bargains, you only need to trawl through the on line suppliers and more than likely find a 2012 bargain still, so start searching.... Trek, specialized, cannondale, scott, etc etc.. The world is your oyster.0

1. You asked if anyone had spotted any bargains - I replied I had.
2. WTF is standard medium fit? - perhaps the reply should have been get a standard medium bike with 105 or ultegra for £1200?
You really need to think about the question before asking it.
When you come up with an actual question that makes sense we can be more helpful.
Oh and why should we do all the hard work if you can't even be bothered to put a short list together?
There are dozens of manufacturers with loads of models and specs, all of them measured or quoted differently and do different things. Which one of these should I pick and then tell you to buy?Yellow is the new Black.0 -

Thanks micky and i have been trawling the internet and have seen a few decent bargains, sorry for such an open ended question but it was more just a generic thing if anyone had stumbled across a bargain that i hadnt.smidsy wrote:mr_sj wrote:1. wondered if anyone had spotted any decent bargains recently.

I apologise in the strongest possible terms for asking an incomplete or fully thought through question, and yet you were the only poster who felt the need to be an obnoxious arse about it.0 -

Don't know about you.. but my jeans don't usually cost £1200.. and they therefore aren't a high involvement purchase like a bike is.0 -

I think this maybe worth a look as well
Defo. If I was in the market for a bicycle I would be spending my money here - excellent VFM!
Or buying a chinese frame direct and buying it myself0 -
Not a bargain in the sense of having money off but seems a pretty decent bike at RRP and not as common as some if that matters. Looks nice as well

Bit over your budget but a bargain IMO: http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/CBB ... plete_bike
The Planet X R57 is good value & in your budget too. Also a Ribble Sportive might be worth a look.'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0 -

I have just purchased a new Sensa Trentino SL with full 105 + pedals with upgraded RA27 Wheels (wheels no longer availiable) for £1100 and the main reason I decided to go with the Sensa was :
http://www.craftsensa-cyclingteam.nl/fo ... Overijssel
http://www.thebikelist.co.uk/images/mod ... m/Main.jpg
Take a look at the bikes on the car as the Craft Sensa Dutch National Team were using the Trentino last year so I came to the conclusion that the bike was worth a punt at that price
I have now taken delivery and can confirm that it is a cracking bike in the flesh and surpasses all my expectations - buying blind from an internet retailer is always a gamble but with a lot of research you can get a bargain.
To Answer the OP you could have full Ultegra with Aksiums for £1171 -
I decided to go 105 with upgraded wheels as my personal limit was £1100 and Ultegra was just out of reach with the basic wheels.0 -
Thats great, thanks everyone for the help and will research them all a little more now0

At the cheaper end of the market i,ve just bought this http://www.fietssportief.nl/img/gd/prod ... _xxx_1.jpg
For my Son who is 15. He wants to take up cycling and i thought that this is a bargain. Only cost €399 or £320. Aluminium frame with 10 year guarantee and full Sora 2012 groupset. If he doesn,t like cycling i can use the bike for work so it,s not money wasted.

This looks like an amazing deal. Leaves enough money to get genuine Ultegra calipers and some decent tyres:
